The day after the Nov. 4 elections people took to the streets in California chanting "Yes we can!" and "Gay or straight, 'No' on 8!" On Nov. 15 there were nationwide protests against the passage of Proposition 8 in California. One notable contradiction between these two scenes was that the "Yes" campaign used Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama's opposition to gay marriage to persuade people to oppose it as well.
