"The Montana Wildlife Center rehabilitates orphaned wildlife for the purpose of release back to the wild, while offering visitors opportunities to learn about wildlife and the natural world in a community facility specifically designed for conservation education."
Montana supports a wide range of wildlife and their habitats. One of FWP's more challenging responsibilities is caring for Montana's orphan wildlife. In the early 1990's, FWP and the Mikal Kellner Foundation for Animals, the Montana FWP Foundation, and the Helena National Forest began working on developing a new, state-of-the-art facility that would give orphan animals a second chance at being wild.
The next phase of this project is to develop the conservation education center. The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Foundation is actively fund raising to turn a historic landmark, the Stedman building constructed in the late 1880s, into a premier conservation education center. Spring Meadow Lake State Park will serve as an accompanying outdoor classroom.
