KUALA KANGSAR, FRI:

4.08pm Pangkor State Assemblyman Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir is the new Perak Menteri Besar.
He was sworn in at 4.01pm at Istana Iskandariah, Bukit Chandan in Kuala Kangsar.


Datuk Seri Najib Razak arrived at Istana Iskandariah under heavy police escort at 3.15pm.
* Unruly crowd who tried to block the royal convoy is being dispersed with shots of tear gas.

The 47-year old, a second term state assemblyman is a prominent political figure in Perak and has contributed to the development of information and communication technology in the state.

Born in Pangkor on March 22, 1962, the Lumut Umno division chief graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from International Islamic University in 1987 and four years later, a master's degree in Islamic Thinking from the same university.

He is married to Datin Saripah Zulkifli and the couple is blessed with five children.

Earlier report:

*The FRU fire tear gas into thousands of protesters at Masjid Ubudiah near Istana Iskandariah.

*Bukit Chandan where Istana Kinta is located is filled with uniformed police personnel.
At 2.35pm, FRU trucks with more than 100 personnel are seen entering the area.

*Initially, reporters and photographers were barred from going into the area but after much persuasion, the police allowed them to go in provided they walk to the palace, which is about two kilometres away.

*Earlier, former Perak State Speaker V. Sivakumar said he will be sending in a letter to the Sultan of Perak in before determining the majority of the house.

*Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin who arrived at his office at 9.50am today was told to leave by police officers half an hour later.
Nizar who entered the State Secretariat building with his Exco members found his office emptied.
He assumed his belongings "were kept in a safe place."
While holding a Press conference, the state secretary came in and told reporters to leave.
Nizar and his line-up of Exco members were then escorted out of the building.
Nizar left the building in his official Toyota Camry.
