State Representative Joan Krupa

By WEEK Producer

After a hard-fought campaign, Jehan Gordon will be sworn in as the 96st district state representative...but not before competitor Joan Krupa got her turn at the seat.

News 25's Gina Ford spent part of the afternoon at State Representative Joan Krupa's office in Springfield...and though her brief tenure will be over tomorrow, she says it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"It's been a whirlwind of activities and opportunities to learn more about our own government, also to participate in the process", said Krupa.

Representative Joan Krupa will serve a term just shy of nine days.
Republicans appointed her after Aaron Schock vacated his seat for Washington...and Krupa says it was well worth it.

"A once in a lifetime opportunity, so I was so pleased that Aaron honored me by seating me".

And it was by no means an uneventful experience. She was able to vote on an issue representatives who have served over a decade say was their most important vote...the impeachment of Governor Blagojevich.

"In the hundred and 76-year history of the state, it's never been done before...so to be a part of that historical moment was priceless".

And Krupa didn't waste time while in Springfield. She also authored a bill to put stricter limitations on Payday Loan businesses.

"I found that many of our citizens in the district were being victimized by payday loan schemes".

And although the bill died by the close of Tuesday's session...

"I've already talked to some fellow legislators that said they would have some interest in bringing it up in the 96th session".

She has also decided to donate her salary of more than five-thousand-dollars to Wildlife Prairie State Park to try to help out with the cuts they've faced.

"I truly think it was just an honor to be here and because it was such a short period of time, I didn't think it was appropriate to accept a salary".

Krupa says although the past week and a half has been filled with lifelong memories, she has no plans of running for the seat in 2012.
