Ninja Umbrella

February 07, 2009 - Imagine it. You're walking down the street on a slightly overcast day, and then it happens. A few drops of rain hit your face, you bow your battle weary head in concentration, knowing exactly what has to happen next. You reach with your right hand down to the left side of your body and grip the ribbed handle of your most trusted ally, for they are the reason you have lived this long. Sensing another hydro onslaught, you shift your weight to your back foot, draw your mighty weapon and proclaim "NO….RAIN….FOR…..SAMURAI!!!". Ok, that was incredibly over-dramatic, but when you hand us an umbrella with a ninja sword handle, things are bound to get a little crazy. BANZAI! More »

Child Programs iPhone App

February 07, 2009 - To some, programming is a no-brainer, but most of those who can make such claims have generally had years and years of experience under their belt, well not in the case of one Malaysian boy. Lim Ding Wen, a nine-year-old boy from Singapore, recently coded and published an iPhone application entirely on his own. More »

Sweden's Stealth Ships

Whether or not the bikini team will pilot these ships is something that has yet to be revealed (fingers crossed!). More »

Sony Slimming Down PS3 Chip Size

February 06, 2009 - In an interview with The Guardian, Sony Europe president Sony Computer Entertainment Europe revealed that the company will swap out cell chips in the PlayStation 3 to reduce production costs later this year. In lieu of huge quarterly losses, Sony has already begun to slim down its staff and manufacturing base by cutting over 16,000 jobs and closing six production centers. More »

Time Warner to Implement More Data Caps

February 05, 2009 - During Time Warner's Q4 results conference call this afternoon, CEO Glenn Britt announced that data cap program would be implemented in "more cities" in the coming months. Britt did not go on to specify which markets would see the data limitations, but it seems fairly clear that the program is becoming less of trial and more of a service standard. More »

FPS Freeks Now Shipping

February 05, 2009 - Although the game accessory industry has grown from small startups to large multinational corporations, it's comforting to know that there is still room for the underdog. Here at IGN Gear we love underdog companies; they always seem to be comprised of passionate inventors looking to improve the experience for themselves and fellow gamers. We've always been big proponents of up and coming products, and last year we got a chance to go hands-on with a cheap, intuitive controller accessory aimed toward improving thumbstick controls: the FPS Freek. This Week In Apps - February 4, 2009

February 04, 2009 - Welcome to "This Week In Apps," a weekly feature column that spotlights the latest and greatest from Apple's iTunes App Store. In order to effectively delineate the useful from the rubbish, IGN Gear will pick several of our favorites from the week's releases. Our criterion for how we select the apps will vary from week to week; some apps may be interesting and helpful, others might be completely nonsensical yet hilarious. Picks this week include deceptive iPhone trackers, WiFi hotspot finders, and voice dialing. More »

Building the Death Star

February 04, 2009 - Here at IGN we've all got our little side projects we like to work on. Some of us build ships in bottles, others work on their home theater system, and some sit quietly in the dark waiting for the release of sweet death. If there were one project that could unite us all, however, it would be the building of a real life Death Star. We've thought about it, you've thought about it, but how do we actually make it happen? Well, some super galactic-level fanboy has already beaten us to the punch and calculated exactly how much it would cost to build the Death Star in modern times. More »

Bill Gates Swarms Audience

February 04, 2009 - There's a couple of ways to prove a point; you can make a firm, valid argument based on facts and experience, or, if you are Bill Gates, you can just release a swarm of mosquitoes into the crowd. Yep, it's true, the Microsoft chairman, while giving a lecture on malaria education, decided to give those in attendance their money's worth. And by money's worth, we mean a face full of blood-sucking insects. Apparently when you have more money than entire countries, you can be a little theatrical with your presentations. More »
