Thanks to Gamespot for the coverage. Too bad the competitors only got to play 1 match, there's too much luck involved with that...

EPIC, doesnt get much better than that, the pinnacle of video game competitivness.

    rafjag,
you basically said, "with the best characters in the game" I could beat anyone. >_>
Being #2 out of 64 people in Street Fighter 4 is still an excellent achievment. They even say in the video how John wasn't used to SF4 yet.

It was one match on Street Fighter IV and one match on SFHD.
Then the decider was on the coin toss match.
They just didn't show the two friendly matches between Eath and Nguyen.
In the two friendly matches I believe each champion won in their own game. As for Choi losing, there's never an excuse for losing. Part of being the best is being able to handle people that you don't know. You won't always fight characters that you're familiar with.

Ummm.....why wasn't there 1 match each of both Street Fighters and a coin toss in the event of a tie? And, why didn't they keep the camera angle from the previous videos? All in all it was a good tournament though. I guess they just need more experience and what's not and eventually they will be stellar.

This tournament was pathetic Gamespot, sorry. Terrible camera work, and apart from Seth's commentary the rest was abysmal. i do agree that the players sholdnt have to hear the commentary either, makes it very difficult to concentrate.

Criminally The best match of the tournament, Guile (final champion) vs Ryu in HD remix was only half shown

Final 2 matches were a joke. John would have owned that guy if he chose a character that john was familar with. Alot of uncertanties game into the game because of it.

Then the SF4 champion had to play a game without the character which got him to the end of the tournament. It should have been 1 match on SF4, one match on HD remix, and then the decider on a random choice. Or even better the best out of 5 between both games.

i didn't think it was that serious... and yes pimper is right that dude played a perfect guile. you guys should just post ur tags and handle it on the 17th... lol

If you go to the Louvre and start telling people that Picasso's painting are garbage because they don't look like real life, then yes you're gonna get called out. The dude came onto a Street Fighter board and started spewing nonsense, I called him out. End of story.
If you can't handle that then too bad. In the real world people don't sugar coat things unless they're your parents, we're grown ups if you can dish out criticism then you can take it.

Uh yeah, I hear people use the word "noob" all the time in everyday vernacular. But hey, let's assume I am not from where you are and people do use "noob" like you said. Well, you werent, so whats your point? And another thing, Erckel, the only thing your "pimpin," is the girls from Soul Calibur.

Overall, the tournament was okay. The camera crew really needs to get it together though. Why would you film like THAT on the final SF4 match? And I know Seth has done his commentary thing in the past, and truthfully, he does far better than other videogame commentators, but the players shouldn't be able to hear what he's commenting on while they're playing. Its obstructive and it could ruin player strategies. Put him in a booth or something like they do with football, basketball, or any other sport. How do they not think about these things?

and despite Paul Eath's last comment about SF4, I'm still excited to get it.

Let's get it together on the next tournament GAMESPOT.

The guy pretty much said the Choi has no idea how to play Sagat and that Eath who played a perfect Guile has no idea what he was doing.
    LOL
And somehow critizing him for his blatant lack of knowledge of the topic of which he chose to critize. Is wrong? If the whole world were less preoccupied with pretending to be nice, then maybe we wouldn't be in this current financial situation. Sometimes the truth can be harsh, but trying to sugar coat the truth is counter productive. I'm sorry, but if it wasn't me, it was gonna be somebody else. One of these days the poor sap was gonna find out that he knows nothing about Street Fighter.

Talking about stuff that you don't know know jack all about, makes you a noob and a douche.
It's got nothing to do with games at all. It applies to everything in this world.
If you wanna crticize something, first make sure you know WTF you're talking about. You don't see me going around telling rocket scientists how they're equations are wrong, when I don't have a clue as WTF it is that I'm talking about.
It's common sense, only a nerd like yourself would even associate my comment as being aimed at gamers only. The basic rule of critiquing anything in this world, is first know what it is that you're critiquing. Otherwise you're gonna come off as douche. Life's too short to pretend to be nice, so calling out a noob for being a noob makes me a bastard then so be it. I'd rather be an honest bastard than the other, which is you.

I completely agree with you, some people don't understand basic human courtesy (yes i know talking smack on a public forum is hipocritical but in some cases it helps), one such case is when someone uses the word n00b, instead of being a jerk maybe you should politely point out the flaws in someones gameplay theories and offer suggestions. Hopefully you can influence players and make them better. after all "newb" was the origional meaning and all it meant was an inexperienced player.

It is people like you that make me embarassed to tell people how much I enjoy video games. It is people like you that attempt to turn the word "noob" into a completely dissing, get-out-of-the-country you're so embarassed comment. Offend him, cause hes not a "veteran" like you. And your breakdown of the Street Fighter fight, notched in at number 14 on Top 100 Nerdiest Moments of All-Time

Dude do you know anything about Street Fighter???
That HD Guile play by Eath was a perfect Kurahashi lock down. In fact it was even better than a Kurahashi lock down cause he threw in some personal mix ups. Guile and Sagat are mean't to be played in ultra defensive mode. Only a noob at Street Fighter would have made thos comments you made. Guile is at his best when locked in the corner with a consistant boom and flash kick charge. You zone the opponent with well placed booms and force them to follow your rhythm. Dude you wouldn't last two seconds with any of those guys up there. Only a fool thinks that good Street Fighter spams fancy combos and all day. What you saw was text book Guile and Sagat play at the highest level. Those random jumping fierce counters and low medium pokes were A Class.
Learn how play Street Fighter before imbarrassing yourself with stupid comments.

Im so glad that guy lost the Sf4 match, all he does is do ranged attack and anti air when an opotent gets close, idk why theres so much @$$ kissing hes pathetic. Look @ that HD fight, stand in a corner doin sonic booms and anti air, damn hes so bad. There were some bad display of gaming skills in this tournament but I think he was the worst...
