Newbern
Newbern was originally a part of Greene
County until 1867 when the precincts to the east of the Warrior
River became a part of Hale
County. The town of Newbern, first called "New Bern" was established
in 1816. The first settler was Dr. Christopher, a planter, preacher
and physician who came with his son-in-law, Mr. Chiles.
