Breaking news! Unannounced surprise project just released!

August 29th, 2007

Featuring another beautiful and charismatic heroine with a strong personality and oodles of charm, modelled in ultra-high resolution: we’re talking true-to-life graphics here, people - not to mention realer-than-real surround sound (this one goes to eleven!) and sensitive touch controls that beats the Wii’s. Prepare to be amazed by this brand new release!

Despite this site’s name, my blog is not (and never will be) an intimate diary of my private life. I rarely write about my home life on these pages - for the simple reason that, for the most part, it doesn’t belong on the web for everyone to read. Today I’m making an important exception:

On Sunday, I became the proud father of a baby girl - our first child - and I have to say that she is, by far, my best work. She’s quite awesome, and beats April Ryan and Zoë Castillo hands down. (I did get a lot of help on this one, however, and can’t really claim too much of the credit.)

This week and next I’ll be adjusting to my new existence and staying away from the office, but I’m quite sure that the new addition to the family will provide me with plenty of inspiration and food for future projects.

So we’re finally home, the cat has Approved, and now I just have to get some sleep. Oh God, do I need to sleep.

A bit of an off topic but I thought you all would like to hear. I have some more news on that recent dolphin extinction we were talking about a week or so ago.

“Aug. 29, 2007 — A creature believed to be the rare Chinese white dolphin has been sighted in the Yangtze river, an expert said Wednesday, renewing hope for a mammal recently declared as probably extinct.

Video footage by a resident of eastern Anhui province purportedly taken this month appears to show the critically endangered white dolphin, known in China as the “baiji”, frolicking in its native Yangtze habitat, said Wang Ding, one of the world’s leading authorities on the species.

“We cannot confirm it 100 percent but it looks pretty much like a baiji,” Wang, a researcher with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told AFP.

Wang led a survey by scientists from around the world last year in search of the dolphin which came up empty, and he told AFP earlier this month the 20-million-year-old species was “likely extinct.”

But he said the new sighting means there is hope.

“If there is one, then we have more there,” he said.”

It is great - how often do we get a second chance like that? Got to be a good omen.

    Congratulations Ragnar! Great news.

Speaking of the subject of the release, while the masculine part of the developer team is usually involved less in the release end of the development cycle, and thus cannot claim complete credit of the finished product, we must remember that he is an irreplaceable part of the design input process, however brief it might be (and as in my case, sometimes extremely brief. Plus, I have to find another member for my development team first).

Oops. Sorry Yume. I didn’t see your earlier post.

@kebu: rest assured that you will be expected to parttake in the entire support lifecycle for the product. Even when the product enters its paid assisted support phase (depending on you country/state/region this may vary from 16 to 21 years after release), you will be expected to follow up and assist whenever necessary.

When do we start with the sequel jokes? I’m thinking episodic content here. We need a Mr. Potato Head like in Toy Story!
