Halloween in Steamboat Springs

Posted on November 1, 2008 10:16 AM

Me and my family traveled to Steamboat Springs for fall break this year. This has always been my favorite place to ski, but there is no skiing taking place here... yet. Pretty soon the snow will fall and the slopes will be crowded. As it turned out, we were here for Halloween. And Halloween in Steamboat Springs is a big deal! They shut down the main street going through downtown, the merchants all have a... Continue Reading

Star Wars Forums

Posted on October 26, 2007 12:10 AM

It was a communal moment. I was thirteen-years old, and I remember standing in line with all the others. We were eagerly waiting... anticipating... fully aware that we were about to experience something that would be groundbreaking and revolutionary. Oh yes, there was a great deal of buzz. And we knew it. It was just a matter of time before we would be able to take our seats in the theater... ... and enjoy seeing... Continue Reading

Spiderman 3

Posted on April 15, 2007 12:45 AM

The hype for Spiderman 3 is building faster than any movie I can recall since the last Star Wars film. Could this end up becoming the highest grossing film of all time, perhaps knocking Titanic off it's perch? Only time will tell as we still have a few weeks before the film launches on May 4th. At the very least, the teasers and trailers are a fascinating study in pre-launch marketing. Will you be seeing... Continue Reading

Stars Wars - The Television Show

Posted on March 17, 2006 04:57 PM

I was thirteen years old when Star Wars hit the big screen. I instantly fell in love with George Lucas' galaxy far far away and long ago. Barely redeemed with Episode III of the series, Star Wars buffs worldwide were saddened knowing that this was indeed the end. But is it really? Continue Reading

Gaming Frenzy

Posted on December 1, 2005 02:08 AM

I've gone the majority of the year without a compelling computer game to buy. Of course, I purchased World of Warcraft in 2004, so that doesn't count. But things have taken a turn for the better this past month. Look at what is now in my PC gaming queue. Continue Reading

Take my DVD copy of The Black Hole, please

Posted on July 20, 2005 07:51 PM

I was 13 years old in 1977. The release of Star Wars that year had whet my appetite for sci-fi space movies. So when Disney released The Black Hole in 1979, I had to go see it. I can't remember if I liked it or not, to be truthful. I recently purchased the movie on DVD, thinking it would fondly remind me of my childhood. Instead, it put me to sleep. Seriously. Waaaay asleep. Mary... Continue Reading

Store Wars

Posted on May 31, 2005 12:26 PM

The organic trade association has produced a very funny Star Wars spoof. See Cuke fend off the evil Dark Tater as the organic foods seek to take control from the evil stores who sell nothing but processed and chemically treated foods. Funny stuff! Store Wars Continue Reading

Star Wars: The Return of the Sith

Posted on May 19, 2005 11:14 PM

A long time ago in galaxy far, far away, a thirteen-year old boy discovered a new world of action and adventure which had captured his imagination unlike anything before. Star Wars hit the theaters in 1977, and I still remember sitting in the very front row, completely in awe by the images on the screen. I probably saw the film ten times in our local cinema, and waited patiently for George Lucas to churn out... Continue Reading

Investing in Legos

Posted on March 2, 2005 09:44 AM

A few years back, I was into selling on ebay big time. Since I am collector of old computer games, I found a market for like-minded collectors on ebay, reselling some of my $1 floppy disk software for as much as $50. It was a sweet deal. But I also learned a little bit about how the collector's market works on ebay, and I began looking out for retail products that would eventually become collector's... Continue Reading

World of Warcraft

Posted on December 20, 2004 10:41 AM

I friend recently recommended that I give a look at World of Warcraft, the latest MMORPG to hit the market. WoW comes with a boatload of hype, mostly due to the incredibly successful Warcraft: Orcs vs. Humans RPG series. WoW, however, is an entirely different beast than the previous games (which didn't interest me in the least). WoW is a fully 3D world teaming with life and critters of all kinds. Since I enjoyed Star... Continue Reading

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Posted on October 3, 2004 10:18 PM

Mary and I had the opportunity to enjoy a "date night" on Friday. First we enjoyed a nice dinner at Johnny Carinos Italian restaurant. Next we went to the mall and pigged out on ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery (superior to Marble Slab in case you are wondering). Finally, it was on the cinema to take in a showing of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I received a great deal of chastisement... Continue Reading

In a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Posted on September 20, 2004 11:55 PM

The most requested DVDs of all time are finally going to be hitting the retail shelves today. Faster than you can say, "Use the Force, Luke", The Star Wars Trilogy DVD set will probably break all records for DVD sales. I know that I will be contributing my $45 to George Lucas's pocketbooks as I plan on picking up my copy on my way to work today. If you can stand to wait a few... Continue Reading

Everquest? Yawnquest...

Posted on June 30, 2004 09:31 PM

In my quest for the perfect online game, I have past by Everquest for several years now. However, I was reading a PC game magazine and saw that they were offering a 30-day free trial to the game. So I went to the site and downloaded an enormous 1.26 GB file. I installed it and signed up as Remotheus, a warrior of some sort or another, with devotion to some god of love. I figure... Looking for a new adventure

Posted on June 25, 2004 02:00 AM

I have been wanting to find a new PC game to play, of the massive multiplayer style. I went through my Star Wars Galaxies addiction last year. I played City of Heroes for about 3 weeks recently, before getting bored. And I am having a difficult time finding something new that peaks my interest. I tried the Sim onlines for about 10 minutes when it came out last year. Yawn. I downloaded a free trial... Continue Reading

The Passion - Watch out, here comes Jesus

Posted on February 10, 2004 11:02 AM

In what may be a shocker to Hollywood, but I have predicted all along, Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ is set to be a blockbuster. Here's the latest story from Variety magazine... 'Passion' poised for heavenly B.O. (Variety) The movie that couldn't find a distributor a year ago is now poised to become this year's first surprise hit. Though not a single television ad has aired for "The Passion of the Christ" two weeks... Continue Reading

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Posted on December 29, 2003 11:13 PM

I have been a computer gamer ever since I encountered Space Invaders on my TRS-80 (that REALLY dates me) about 25 years ago. Dozens of computer games are published every year, but only a handful of those I try actually keep my attention for the duration of the game. The last game to do so we Star Wars Galaxies (which has since lost my attention and I am cancelling my account). I had a great... Continue Reading

Best Movies of All Time: Setting the Stage

Posted on November 18, 2003 03:36 PM

Tomorrow, I begin a series titled "The Best Movies of All Time". First of all, you should know that I am only counting movies that are presently in my DVD library (600+ titles), so some movies are not even getting a chance at this honor. However, since the majority of films have been released on DVD, and there are very few that I am looking forward to being published, I believe this list to be... Continue Reading

Day 14: The Freedom Trail

Posted on October 18, 2003 08:17 PM

I am so exhausted after today! We walked the "Freedom Trail" in Boston with our friends Ro and Kyle. Starting at the Bostom Common (the first public park in the U.S.) and ending up at the Bunker Hill monument, the Freedom Trail meandered, twisted and turned for over two miles through over a dozen historical sites that captured the essence of the struggle for our Nation's Independence. We started by driving to the mass transit... Continue Reading

Are YOU a Jedi?

Posted on August 22, 2003 12:35 PM

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of the most anticipated PC games ever to be released. It is already out for XBox and has received RAVE reviews. Unfortunately, PC users will have to wait until November to buy the game. In the meantime, check out this fun Jedi Test on the KotOR web site. I came out as a 33. Can't help but be on the good side! How about you? Continue Reading

Journeys through the Galaxy

Posted on August 14, 2003 02:30 AM

Here are some photos taken along the way as Mmoc Leoj has pursued a life of fame and fortune in the Star Wars Galaxy. Banthas smell BAD! Corky wears his Tusken Raider mask with pride. It's ugly. Say Cheese, Corky! Goin' fishin. And I HATE fishing. Big fictional, pixelized creatures that want to hurt me must die! Continue Reading

I've been having a great time with Star Wars Galaxies. What a fun and addictive game. Here are the latest screen shots I have captured while exploring the galaxy. I took a few of me hanging out after a long night's hunt, as well as some HUGE creatures I encountered on Talus while doing missions with Vaba. Continue Reading

Mmoc Leoj

Posted on July 6, 2003 01:19 AM

Well, I have been playing Star Wars Galaxies for three days now. I can safely say that this stuff is digital crack. Highly addictive and just plain fun. See that strapping young lad above? Yup, that is my alter ego, Mmoc Leoj. Already sharp with a pistol and an up and coming rebel, I have ventured forth on many missions, encountering a good number of beasties and critters. I have met some very nice... Continue Reading

Notes to self

Posted on July 5, 2003 08:28 PM

Get on the treadmill. You are getting fat again. Don't get too addicted to Star Wars Galaxies, even though your character is starting to rock. Oh, and watch out for wamprats. Work smart. Accomplish something. Remember to floss. Try not to embarrass yourself. In case you were thinking about piercing your tongue, don't. The side effects seem to be getting worse. Continue Reading

Star Wars: Galaxies

Posted on July 3, 2003 01:58 PM

I have finally gone and done it. I have purchased my first Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game for the PC, Star Wars Galaxies, from LucasArts. I have dabbled with the game for a few hours today and have found it to be quite entertaining. I am beginning to see the appeal of this genre. Certainly, there is a fair amount of battling to be done. But most impressive is the interaction with other people simultaneously... Continue Reading
