Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) and other organizations have displayed their achievements since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Prayer Grounds.
Announcing this, Mohammad Bazeghi, advisor to ICHHTO’s deputy head for handicrafts, said ICHHTO’s pavilion exhibits its achievements in cultural heritage, handicraft and tourism sectors over the past 30 years, IRNA reported.
Bazeghi pointed out that the exhibition’s handicrafts sector displays 60 artistic works that have received UNESCO’s seal of excellence.

“Activities, objectives and policies of ICHHTO in the handicrafts sector, including the rising share of handicrafts in gross domestic product, promoting training of industrialists and paving the grounds for development of non-governmental organizations within the framework of handicraft unions, cooperatives and foundations will be presented at the exhibition in the form of brochures,“ he said.
Bazeghi stated that planning e-commerce and marketing in target countries, holding specialized seminars and organizing order registrations, as well as follow-up of trade agreements with different countries in the field of handicrafts are also on display.
“On the sidelines of the exhibition, a photo exhibition in an open area displays 110 photos from different handicraft sectors,“ he said.
The exhibition lasts one week.

Peace, Friendship Iran’s Global Message
Iran’s message to the world is of peace and friendship, a senior official said.
In a ceremony held to inaugurate the sand sculpture of a phoenix on Hormuz Island, Esfandiyar Rahim Mashaei, the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, said, ’’I announce the Iranian message of friendship and peace to the people of the world from Hormuz Island.“
He noted that on the threshold of the third millennium BC, Iran’s role in the world is evident, CHTN reported.
“We are standing beside all the people of the world and urge them to trust the Iranian nation,“ he said.
Mashaei also said Hormuz Island must be turned into an international tourism hub, in view of its high potentials.
The ceremony was held on Feb. 9 .

Iran Can Export $10b
Of Handicrafts

Iran has the potential for exporting handicrafts worth $10 billion and boosting direct and indirect employment in the sector.
Stating the above, Mehdi Kiyaie, the head of Production Support and Commercial Department, said studies indicate Iran’s handicrafts have the capacity of creating jobs for 20 million people, CHTN reported.
Kiyaie noted that the share of handicrafts and traditional arts is expected to increase during the next five-year development plan (2010-15).
Referring to the fact that Iran’s share in the sector can increase by 10 to 12 percent, he said handicrafts have been undermined over the past few years.
“Despite special facilities considered for boosting non-oil exports, the export of handicrafts has registered slow growth,“ he said. The official announced that expert studies on challenges facing Iran’s handicrafts have shown that the domestic market has focused on supply and sale of products, while in the foreign markets it concentrates on ways to boost exports and increase its presence in new markets.
Supporting production, domestic sales and exports through banking, transport and customs facilities is necessary for boosting handicraft revenues.
Kiyaie noted that the handicraft sector’s problems should be identified and executive programs prepared for overcoming problems and gaining access to a bigger foreign market share.
“Export promotion and presence in international markets, as well as maintaining the conditions need a sustainable export strategy that should be turned into law,“ he said.
