Cole Trickle, umm, Tom Cruise will drive the pace car. Hello Camaro, meet turn 4 wall.
A pair of '69 Camaros. White one is a pace car.

A 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will be the pace car for the 51st Daytona 500. A Camaro SS model with a six-speed manual transmission and 426-horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8. This Camaro will feature a light bar with strobe system, options you will not find in your local showroom.
The last time Camaro had the honor was 40 years ago. War, a bad economy and muscle cars rolling off the assembly line seem to be the perfect combination for a repeat performance.

If Chevy can put a 6 Cylinder Engine that gets over 30 MPG in this Car, they will sell millions. I know all the greaheads will want more muscle but Im over all that. Let's be sensible and save energy while sporting a throwback flare for style.

The base LS and the LT come with 3.6L direct-injected V6 (300 hp/273 lb-ft). It's highway mileage is rated at 26, but that does not specify it it's auto or stick. May be the same for both.

There is talk though of putting the 260 hp 2.0L turbo-four from the Solstice GXP, Cobalt SS, and HHR SS in it, which would help the highway numbers a bit. The problem is that it's an extremely big, heavy car. The lightest V6/manual is 3741 lbs, a V8 SS auto is 3919 lbs., closer to the Challenger than the Mustang.
