On behalf of Bristol-Myers Squibb, Elliott Sigal, executive vice president, chief scientific officer and president, Research and Development, accepted the 2008 Corporate Leadership in Lupus Award from the Board of Directors of the Lupus Foundation of America at their Fifth Annual Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. Celebrating advances in Lupus research and education, the gala attracts more than 650 attendees including members of Congress, federal agency leaders, business professionals, medical and health organization representatives, researchers, clinicians, and lupus patients and their families.

March 2008
National Association for Female Executives selected Bristol-Myers Squibb as one of the Top 10 Companies for Executive Women. This year's list of companies were required to have at least two women on the board, a significant number of women in senior ranks and programs and policies that support women's advancement.

Bristol-Myers Squibb's Building 115 in New Brunswick,New Jersey has received the Facilty of the Year Award for Equipment Innovation. The award is sponsored by the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering, INTERPHEX and Pharmaceutical Processing magazine. Bristol-Myers Squibb was cited for bringing early and late phase clinical development and manufacturing together within a single facility to create a Pharmaceutical Development Center of Excellence.

Marci Hanlon, director, Consumer Marketing, Orencia® (abatacept) was named one of the Top 25 Direct-to-Consumer [DTC] Pharmaceutical Marketers of the Year, by DTC Perspectives, the leading publication for consumer marketers in the pharmaceutical industry. The seventh annual Top 25 list consists of marketers from pharmaceutical, biotech and device manufacturers. This year’s Top 25 were selected after an industry-wide nomination and screening process.

December 2007
The High National AIDS Council of Mali presented Bristol-Myers Squibb with a Gold Rubon Award on World AIDS Day, December 1. The Mali government established the award to recognize partners who have made a significant impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS in that country. Bristol-Myers Squibb provides care, treatment and prevention programs through its SECURE THE FUTURE® program.

November 2007
The Craig D. Tifford Foundation bestowed its Orchid of Life Award to Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Renzo M. Canetta, M.D., vice president, Department of Oncology Global Clinical Research. The foundation honored Canetta and the department for being “instrumental in the study, development and regulatory approvals of several new drugs for treating patients with testicular cancer.” 

The New Jersey Human Relations Council recognized Bristol-Myers Squibb’s “outstanding achievement in community relations” with the Achievement by a Corporation Award. The council honored the company for supporting the New Jersey Holocaust Commission, promoting science education at 12 schools in the state, and establishing and expanding the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Bristol-Myers Squibb received the first State Champion Award from the Massachusetts Alliance for Economic Development. The award honors the company for its “massive facility expansion and job growth at Devens, which demonstrates an exceptional commitment to the state of Massachusetts.”

October 2007
Science magazine’s survey of 477 companies worldwide -- top employers in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical and related industries -- named Bristol-Myers Squibb as a Top 20 Employer Worldwide for the second year in a row. The company was cited for doing “important, quality research,” being “socially responsible” and for treating “its employees with respect.”

At its Fifth Annual Champions of Children Awards ceremony, Child Care, Inc. presented Bristol-Myers Squibb with the Corporate Leadership Award.

The American Heart Association named Bristol-Myers Squibb a Start! Fit Friendly Platinum Award company for promoting exercise and good nutrition in the workplace.

For the second year in a row, Bristol-Myers Squibb received the top rating of 100 percent in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s sixth annual Corporate Equality Index, which rates employers on their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors.

For the 10th consecutive year, Working Mother magazine selected Bristol-Myers Squibb as a 2007 Best Company for Working Mothers. The magazine measured and scored companies in seven areas: work force profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs and company culture. Particular weight was given to companies that have flexibility and family-friendly policies.

May 2007
John Damonti, president, Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, received the 2007 Robert W. Scrivner Award for Creative Grantmaking from the Council on Foundations for the company’s SECURE THE FUTURE® program. The award honors individuals who possess a combination of vision, principle and personal commitment in making charitable grants.

The American Heart Association gave its first Woman of Distinction Award to Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Sharon Henry, M.D., vice president, Global Medical Affairs, Cardiovascular/Metabolics, Research and Development. The award recognizes women who through their personal and professional ventures have made a significant difference in the fight against heart disease in women.

Ingrid Sheremeta, Bristol-Myers Squibb’s director, Supplier Diversity, was included in a list of a distinguished group of 49 individuals who were recognized by DiversityBusiness.com for their outstanding achievements in various diversity initiatives. Bristol-Myers Squibb was one of only three pharmaceutical companies whose representatives were cited in the report.

Bristol-Myers Squibb’s pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in Evansville and Mount Vernon, Indiana earned the Indiana Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s prestigious “Star” certification, the highest level of recognition the agency offers through its Voluntary Protection Program. The certification recognizes outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health management programs.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society issued a special citation to Bristol-Myers Squibb in recognition of the company’s outstanding support of the society as a major corporate partner. In the past year, Bristol-Myers Squibb has given more than $1 million to support the society’s patient education initiatives and its Light the Night Walk, serving as International Presenting Sponsor for the campaign.

David Cushman, Ph.D., and Miguel Ondetti, Ph.D., were inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, posthumously, for their discovery of Capoten® (captopril) in 1975 while they were researchers at Bristol-Myers Squibb. In 1999, Cushman and Ondetti received the prestigious Albert Lasker Award for Clinical Medical Research. The Lasker Award is considered America's Nobel Prize in medical science.

Mark D. Peters II, Pharm.D., received the Edward J. III Excellence in Medicine Community Service Leader Award on behalf of the Hunterdon County Medication Access Partnership. As Bristol-Myers Squibb's director, Strategic Alliances and Health Care Quality, Plavix® (clopidogrel bisulfate tablets) Marketing, Peters helped form the organization which has been cited as a model program for health care access for New Jersey and the nation.

For the seventh year in a row, Bristol-Myers Squibb was chosen a Top Organization for Multicultural Business Opportunities for 2006 through an online poll sponsored by DiversityBusiness.com. The award -- also known as the Div50 -- is a list of the top 50 U.S. companies that purchase products and services from women- and minority-owned companies. The award recognizes Bristol-Myers Squibb's commitment to Supplier Diversity.
