Coombe Cottage on the shores of Derwent Water near Keswick is the former home of director Ken Russell. He lived there with his wife Vivian for 32 years before their divorce in 2007, after which he sold it to her.
The director, an Oscar-nominee for Women in Love and a three times BAFTA winner, first came to the Lakes in 1975 when he The Who's rock opera, Tommy into a film. After waking up after his first night in the Lakes he opened his windows and thought he was in Shangri-la said his ex wife Vivian. he bought this house in an auction for just £12,000.
