This movie shows a new concept for tileset builders.
Basically, it's a group of tiles, which include a transparent window. Behind this window are very small buildings, and some very low poly animated models. In the background, some small skyboxes, changing with the time of the day (day, dusk, night and dawn)
This video is for a futuristic module, but the concept could be use for heroïc fantasy as well.
For example, you're in a Castle, and outside, a tremendous dragon is flying, preventing people from escaping.
You can do whatever you want.
As I had never seen such an idea before, I wanted to share it with other people.
If you have comments or critics, please do !
Update : A new video is added !
Update 2 : Another video, with a desert city interior, and the wonderful kissing animation by Lunecroquée.
Update 3 : A new video, showing another interior type.
Update 4 : The cockpit : A new video, using the same concept.
But this time I went a little bit further :
- The window tile is animated and the animation can be dynamically modified by script, using DayToNight and NighttoDay fonctions.
This allows to change the landscape either by scripting or by DM wand.
There are two versions of the same video, one in youtube for low connexion, the other one in wmv, available for download.

Goudea - you rule! :) Awesome work - probably best damn thing I have ever seen on the Vault! I am working on my own modern (post-apocalyptic) module for multiplayer purposes, and I would be one happiest creature on this planet if I could use it... Those tilesets, smoking cigarretes animations, models - ahh, simply most beautiful contet EVER I think :) Keep it up! Regards!
Thank you Darkvalley !
Do you want to know if I am planning to use this concept to medieval style tilesets ?
Maybe, if I have time.
When I'm done with this tileset, in a week or so, I have scripting to do to my module. And after this, I may do some tiles for generic bioware tilesets.
I'm thinking of a basic city scene, with a trading cart moving all along the street. But it will depend on my free time :D

Marvellous work Goudea ! Did you plan to give us "old D&D-style-Gamers/Builders" the possibility to use your work too, or is it only ment to fit with the (realy nice) D20 content ?
I'm curious about your progress in work and got a eye on this vault site ;-)

I have been rejoicing since Stacy first released the Starship Interiors set and d20 released Modern. (Not to mention the excellent futuristic city tileset Goudea already released. All I can say is "Well Done!" and please release all the haks that you guys have been working on. I and other builders are drooling at the chance to play with them. Thank you so much for working on this. It is people like you that are keeping this community alive. _________________________ Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.

Got to admit I'm as much interested in the creature models and heads, and the emotes, as much as anything else. I'm starting to put together something Star Wars based as a campaign using D20, hence the tile sets would be great for the setting but the creatures would be truly amazing to have. Knowing how much of the content is intended for release, and roughly when it would be available, would be wonderful.

WOW, your stuff is amazing please release to the public
Well, it's good question !
We are currently discussing in my team to decide if we release all our hak (tilesets, classes, 2da, creatures, etc ...) or some of them only, and when.
For sure, this tileset is going to be released, as it is just un "upgrade" of Stacy's starship interiors.
I have still 5 easy groups to do before it is done.
So I think this tileset is going to be ready for released in two weeks.
The problem is that I want to release all our haks on the vault in one single form instead of using different entries for each stuff.
So I am not sure for the moment ...
If many people can't wait two or three month for all haks to be released, I will probably do as I did before, and submit this tileset as a seperate content. In this case, in two weeks probably as I said before.
All looks absolutely stunning. One question though, or perhaps two. Will this be going on general release through the vault, and if so is there a release date?

Jezira : Thanks ! I am using the texture you gave me for the dark city interior.
Diademus : Glad you like it ! I really would like to see this idea combined with your talent !
by this I mean if the windows are long enough the buildings outside would move in relation to the players view to fast as the player moves along the windows length and would ruin the illusion.
This is a very pertinent remark.
I will take care of this for my next creations. Thanks !
Ive had a similar idea to this mayself for a while, its deffinatly something that people havent realy caught on to yet, although I would say paralax would be a slight problem having the scaled buildings so small and so close to the window, by this I mean if the windows are long enough the buildings outside would move in relation to the players view to fast as the player moves along the windows length and would ruin the illusion. You could fix that by moving the buildings much further away from the window but that would increase the size of the tile groups dimensions.
Given that from the looks of it your room is a single tile group (guess you could call it a feature room ie it doesnt connect to other tiles in anyway and would probably be setup in its own area), you could deffinatly stick actual (not full scale but close to full scale) buildings outside and at their almost correct distance, since the polycount would be so low, you could then have the areas fog clipping distance set to 80+ and the exterior buildings would be easily visable much more dramatic and paralax alot more realisticly and run smoothly.
But yes its an idea that hasnt realy been considered by alot of tileset makers, which is a pitty since the NWN engine can be made to do some realy impresive things when you think sidways about it :P .
In my opinion, this idea could revolutionize the way NWN is played. NWN's existing interior cells typically make me feel claustrophobic, but not this approach--fantastic! _________________________ vivamus atque amemus

Sheer unadulterated class!! Hey you could do fish and an underwater scene! Birds! Bats! Absolutely awesome idea...completely transforms interiors!
