Obama Housing Plan, Pope Smacks Pelosi
Sign of the times: the White House posts "Help for Homeowners" on its blog, and nearly a dozen media outlets, newspapers and blogs link to it. The Nation says, "Finally." Market Movers thinks Obama's plan is "quite elegant" by making maximum use of Fannie and Freddie since the taxpayers already own them. "This plan's mere existence is refreshing," says The Wonk Room. Marc Ambinder separates the good elements of the proposal from the bad. The Moderate Voice says Obama's plan "is not a nice solution but is a realistic one." Discourse.net says the plan "will help people in the zone to be helped, but not the destitute."
Bloggers Can't Believe A-Rod Was That "Stupid"

"This just in: Alex Rodriguez was 'stupid' when he used steroids," reports Over the Monster (a Red Sox blog gloating over more Yankee misery). Yep, "ignorance seemed to be the theme" during A-Rod's press conference yesterday to explain his use of steroids from 2001 to 2003, says Deadspin. In what Gothamist calls an "uneven admission," the Yankee superstar claimed: "I didn't think they were steroids. That's part of being young and stupid. It was over the counter. It was pretty basic. It was amateur hour.... It was two guys doing a very amateur thing ... All these years I never thought I did something wrong." Uh, alright. Even LoHud Yankees blog isn't buying it: "A-Rod turned 26 in 2001...he had just signed a record $252 million contract..he had played 790 big-leagues, been an All-Star four times and played in three playoff series...How naive could he have been?"Concurs Yanks blog Scott Proctor's Arm: "It's extremely hard to believe Rodriguez didn't know what he was doing at the time."
