FAITH NO MORE Reunion 'Confirmed' By MIKE PATTON's Publicist - Feb. 24, 2009
Former FAITH NO MORE singer Mike Patton's publicist has confirmed that the hugely influential '90s alt-metal band will reunite for a summer tour. At the moment, it appears that the group will only perform in Europe and there are absolutely no plans to tour the States.

The news was broken in the final line of a press release sent late Monday night (February 23) promoting Patton's involvement in the "major motion film 'Crank 2: High Voltage', which listed Patton's upcoming performance schedule, including a stop at the Coachella festival and "the highly anticipated reunion tour with FAITH NO MORE in Europe this summer."

As previously reported, a source close to guitarist Jim Martin, who was in FAITH NO MORE from 1983 until 1993, has told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that the axeman expressed interest in taking part in the reunion after being recently contacted by keyboardist Roddy Bottum and a member of FAITH NO MORE's management team, but that the band inexplicably decided to utilize a different guitarist — believed to be one of several musicians that were in FAITH NO MORE following Martin's exit from the group — for the upcoming dates.

Although Kerrang! magazine reported in November that a number of U.K. concert venues had been placed on hold for FAITH NO MORE dates next spring, bassist Billy Gould downplayed the speculation, saying, "If anything like this were to happen, it would have to come from the band, and I haven't spoken with any of them in over a year."

Meanwhile, U.K. promoter Andy Copping also said FAITH NO MORE's return this year was unlikely, telling Metal Hammer, "FAITH NO MORE haven't managed to get that PR machine together ... All of the band members haven't agreed to do it."

Martin left FAITH NO MORE in 1993 due to "internal conflicts" and was replaced by FNM singer Mike Patton's MR. BUNGLE bandmate Trey Spruance. Trey also exited soon after recording 1995's "King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime", just before the band was to begin a world tour. Spruance was replaced by Dean Menta, the band's guitar roadie. FAITH NO MORE's final studio CD, "Album of the Year", was released in 1997 and featured yet another new guitarist, Jon Hudson, who was a former roommate of Billy Gould.

But it makes sense....Big bands always test the waters on the European festival circuits. Puts you back in front of large crowds, and tests how well you can get along with your bandmates.

Sadly, Limp Bizkit is doing the same thing. Oh no...Limp Bizkit is going to tour with Faith No More.

Unfortunately he's right. Thanks to a combination of illegal downloading and excessive Ticketmaster fees (yeah the bands, venues and record companies get fucked just as bad as we do) it is a shitload more expensive to do a proper US tour these days. The record companies don't kick in nearly what they used to because they aren't selling any records anymore (wonder why with all the theft), which forces the bands themselves to have to invest more of their own money, which most of them don't have. This is why you see so many package tours these days, because unless you're Metallica, AC/DC , Rush, Tool, Kid Rock or Poison there just is no money to do an arena, or even a large club tour without taking the whole label with you. That's the great thing about touring Europe, its all festivals. You split the costs progressively over 10 20 or 30 bands and share a lot of the infrastructure, its a shitload cheaper and easier to make money. This is also why you see many more travelling festivals and one day major festivals in the US now. It's not to be awesome to the fans. Its so Ozzy or Nikki or Dave can actually DO an arena tour and not go broke. Before Gigantour, Megadeth was playing clubs or supporting Motley Crue. You want bands like Faith No More to play more US dates than Bonnaroo or Coachella? Start buying cd's or paying for your downloads on Amazon or itunes or rhapsody. That, and let your congressman know how you feel about ticketmaster.

First off I have to say FNM was full of talented musicians and made some killer albums with different guitar players. I have no idea if this band is reuniting for a tour and frankly I don't give a shit. In my humble opinion this band had it's day and quit when it was time. I have NEVER liked Mike fucking Patton. This guy just may be the biggest con man in music. This guy takes a dump on a cd and passes it off as art and thousands of people buy into it. He's a joke. Always will be a joke. He'd be tolerable if he wasn't such a self righteous ass hat. A true artsy fartsy "artist" doesn't go around telling everyone how great he is and hand out criticism to everyone else. And before you kids go wasting your time by telling me I'm jealous, don't bother. Save the thread space. I'm jealouse of guys like Lemmy,Les Claypool, Wino. Mike Patton hasn't sold enough albums or done enough drugs to make anyone with common sense envy him in the least.

I hope that Ozzy Stillbourne isn't on the money...he was right to say that FNM was always enigmatic and liked to poke at people with a sharp stick. This release could be a prank, but I sure hope not.

I got into them with "Album of the Year" ("Ashes to Ashes" is one of my favorite songs, period.) Shortly thereafter, they broke up. I remember listening to Hard Drive with Lou Brutus in April of '98 and being pretty surprised/saddened by it. I had JUST started picking up their back catalog/becoming obsessed.

I would travel a long distance (unfortunately, I don't have nearly enough money to go to Europe...and my girlfriend would kill me) to see this reunion.

And assholes, FNM did some brilliant stuff AFTER Jim. I love Jim's work too, but if they get Trey or Jon Hudson I will still be incredibly happy. :-)

I wouldn't exactly think "Angel Dust" when I think of superior guitar playing. Great album, but by that point Jim Martin's input was sorta minimal, and there were alot more keyboards than guitars on that CD.
And ever heard JM's newest CD?! Fucking terrible!
Mike Patton's stuff outside of Tomahawk has been pretty fair to middlin', nothing that actually utilizes his vocal abilities.

It's going to end up being the Mike Patton Band either which way.

Damn, I'm so two-minded about this. I was a huge FNM fan when I got "The Real Thing" about a year before "Epic" broke (me & my friends heard about them because Metallica was always talking up their shit).

I never did get to see them live back in the day, and I kick myself for it.

That said, I should be tremendously excited by the repeated rumours of this reunion tour (which, if it happens, WILL eventually make it to North America, don't worry). Whether Jim Martin is there or not. Again, Jim was a HUGE part of FNM's visual presence, but they continued to make GREAT (maybe greater?) albums after he left.

That said, though, I guess I get tired of hearing all these bands deciding to ca$h in ten years later. I didn't expect a reunion from FNM, and I don't know how I feel about it. They were an enigmatic band, and I figured they would let the legend remain the legend. Kind of like Robert Plant kiboshing the Zeppelin reunion (well, the LATEST one anyway) - some things are better left alone.

Yes, sure, I'd love to see FNM, since I didn't get to back then - but at the same time, I'd like their legacy to remain intact and integral. And a reunion tour always just seems like a ca$h grab to me.

Anyway, my 2¢.

I don't know about this.

Jim Martin's influence is plain. If you really believe he did not contribute to AD you are sorely uninformed and lack your own opinion. As for seeing them live... some people prefer humping plastic dollies over "the real thing".

We don´t want to stop anything you dickhead, we are just saying that we won´t go to their concert just in case, nothing more nothing less. It is just an opinion, and yours is at the same level as ours, righto?

Agree with you 100%, KFAD is their best album, very radical on both sides, the metal and the softest. That combination makes it AMAZING.

`A source close to guitarist Jim Martin, who was in the group from 1983 until 1993, has said that the axeman expressed interest in taking part in the reunion after being recently contacted by keyboardist Roddy Bottum and a member of Faith No More's management team, but that the band inexplicably decided to utilize a different guitarist for shows.´

Fuck this reunion, no Jim Martin=no FNM.
