To the left is the Classic Controller we all know and love, provided the game isn't using the tiny and poorly-positioned ZR and ZL buttons. To the right is its possible successor: the Classic Controller PRO, currently set for release in Japan sometime in 2009. The PRO adds PS2-style handle grips and turns the ZR and ZL nubs into proper shoulder buttons, positioned much like the way the L2 and R2 buttons are on the classic Dual Shock 2 controller.

Not only will this make the Classic Controller PRO a lot more useful for playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but it means it'll be a lot easier for publishers to port PS2 titles (like, oh, Monster Hunter G) to the Wii with minimal control changes.

So what do you guys think of the new PRO? Given that the main flaw of the original Classic was ZR/ZL being tiny and hard to hit, I'm seriously hoping the PRO comes to the US sometime soon... and that I can still get something on eBay for my old Classics when I get rid of them.

Overall it looks kinda strange...but it is definitely an improvement. And as I found out when linking my GBA to the Game Cube, having a cord in the bottom is awkward on a controller. And before you say the cord was still on the top for that, know that I always plugged in my GBA in the bottom for power. But we shall see if this new Classic controller can beat the GC controller.
