WIS 172 Resurfacing Project (US 41 - I-43)

WIS 172 Resurfacing Project is 5.5 miles in length, includes segments of the Village of Ashwaubenon, Village of Allouez, and Village of Bellevue in Brown County.  This project will:

  • Repair and resurface the existing roadway and ramps between US 41 and I-43
  • Re-deck the bridge crossing the Fox River
  • Replace the bridges over Oneida Street
  • Rehabilitate most bridges through this segment of WIS 172
  • Add auxiliary exit-only lane at WIS 172 westbound exit to Pilgrim Way
  • Add an auxiliary exit-only lane at WIS 172 eastbound to Vanderperren Way
  • Add three crash investigation sites

This segment of WIS 172 acts as the south leg of the beltline around the Green Bay area. The traffic on this highway serves both the local commuter traffic and regional traffic. This route will serve as a vital alternate route during the US 41 Capacity Expansion Project.

This project will rehabilitate this segment of highway in order to provide a better driving environment for motorists and prepare it to handle a higher traffic volumes while US 41 is under construction.

Construction began in September 2008 and be completed by September 2010.  Project benchmarks include completing westbound lanes prior to August 2009, completing eastbound lanes prior to August 2010 and opening Oneida Street prior to July 15, both 2009 and 2010.

Project cost is estimated at $30-40 million.
