E.ON Player of the Round 2008-09
Fifth Round Proper

Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta has been named the 'E.ON Player of the Round' after orchestrating the Toffees' 3-1 Fifth Round victory over Aston Villa at Goodison Park.

Arteta set up Jack Rodwell for the opening goal of the afternoon with his corner-kick before slotting home from the penalty spot in the 24th minute.

The Spaniard
pulled the strings from central midfield with a performance that balanced great energy with superb technical skill and as a consequence, he received an overwhelming 68 per cent of the vote.

Chelsea's hat-trick hero, Nicolas Anelka, was a distant second with 18 per cent of the vote, while Greg Halford, Jason Scotland and Darron Gibson were also in the running for the award.

Everton will now take on either West Ham United or Middlesbrough in the last eight at home.

The five nominees were selected by a panel which includes Mark Clemmit of Radio Five Live, Howard Wheatcroft of the Daily Star, FA Cup hero Ricky George, ITV pundit Andy Townsend and E.ON Managing Director Graham Bartlett.

The 'E.ON Player of the Round' award is presented to the outstanding player at each stage of competition, starting from the First Round Qualifying all the way to the Semi-Final.

'E.ON Player of the Round' winners will receive VIP hospitality for themselves and their guest at The FA Cup Final on Saturday 30 May 2009. The winner of each award will also be presented with a commemorative trophy.
