Please tell me if I can use cotton yarn. Would the instructions be the same???? My daughter wants a "cotton" hat and this one is so pretty. Thanks

Hey Dot, I am 12 years old and i love to crochet. however, i am having trouble with this pattern because i think the top of my honeycomb hat will be too small. you said it would measure 7" at the end of round 6, but i don't think mine will be quite that big. can i just increase the number of rounds before i start the "honeycomb" part of the hat?

anyways i love your patterns.

Hi Dot,

I just realized that when I made my first Honeycomb Hat I did it completely wrong! Haha. I thought the "honeycombs" were supposed to line up so I just modified your instructions as I went along. But tonight I'm doing one for a friend's Christmas present and wanted it to be perfect so I took another look at the hat. The first time I couldn't for the life of me figure out what all that slip stitch nonsense at the beginning of row 9 was about - now I know! Uhh ... the honeycombs alternate in each row. Duh.

Hi Dot,

This is the first hat I've ever made, let alone crocheted, and I managed to make it in one evening. I absolutely love it, I made it in a pink/grey/white variegated yarn. I used a J hook and it fits my big fat head quite nicely. Thank you so much for creating this pattern!

You're welcome, Deborah, your changes to the hat sound lovely. I'd bet she looks great in her new outfit.

Thanks Dot for the gorgeous hat pattern! I made it to go with the poncho that I made the other night for my beloved granddaughter's 8th birthday. I 'cheated' a little at the end of the brim by adding the finish to be like the neck edge of the poncho :)
I used the H hook for the first 11 rounds then switched to the J hook to finish ... looks great.

Hi Pat, you're right, round 16 is confusing. Try this,

ROUND 16: sl st in next ch-3 space, ch 2, *4 hdc in next ch-3 sp. Repeat from * around. Join in first hdc. (72 hdc)

Let me know if this is any clearer. I'll make a correction to the pattern to help others. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Hi, on the honeycomb hat the instructions for round 16 is a little unclear. Is it just 4 hdc in each ch3 sp? or do I sl st and ch 2 before the hdcs?? thank you

Hi FisherL, I don't know why. Highlight the pattern, copy it and past it into a word document on your pc and save it. That's how I do it whan I find patterns I want.

Thank you Christine. Either idea is a good one, but I think I'd add more rows and use the same size hook.

A very beautiful hat Dot! Thank you for sharing the pattern with us. I made this for myself using an I hook instead of a J because my head size is smaller than average. It turned out fine with the exception of the brim. It wasn't long enough. Maybe next time I'll switch to the J hook for the brim or do an extra round or two of rnd 17. Do you have a suggestion? Thanks again!

Hi Azriel, I'm sorry I can't help you. I don't know how to graph a pattern.

I can't understand by writing, but by graph (in mesh I can understand it better) perhaps if is not to much too ask to put in on a mesh (pattern) instead of writing. Thank you in advance
