The Personal Papers of Charles E. Stanton

Historical Note
From 1966 to 1968, Charles E. Stanton sent a series of questionnaires and letters to prominent politicians, authors, lawyers, clergymen, intellectuals, and other personalities and Kennedy associates regarding the feelings and opinions these individuals had concerning John F. Kennedy’s assassination and the Warren Commission Report. Stanton originally intended to use the information gathered by his research to compose a magazine article; however, due to the lack of sufficient response, Stanton opted instead to donate his research findings to the John F. Kennedy Library.

Collection Overview
The personal papers of Charles E. Stanton consist of questionnaires and related materials pertaining to John F. Kennedy’s assassination and the investigation results reported by the Warren Commission. The vast majority of the collection consists of the questionnaire responses that were mailed back to Stanton by individuals based mainly in the United States. These responses include replies and non-replies to the questions asked. Also included are Stanton’s original cover letters, letters responding to additional research queries, and photographs. The collection consists of a single series entitled Kennedy Assassination Questionnaires.
