ARIA Awards

The ARIA Awards recognise excellence and innovation in all genres of Australian music. On the 2nd March 1987, the very first ARIA Awards took place at Sydney's Sheraton Wentworth Hotel in front of 500 industry guests. Nineteen years later, the ARIAs are now held in front of 2,500 industry guests, 5,000 members of the general public, and are watched by almost 2 million people via Network Ten's broadcast.

The awards are broadcast nationally on commercial TV and relayed via PAY TV to international audiences.

"The ARIA Awards are the biggest event in the Australian music calendar - a showcase for the brightest and best local artists to have made an impact on Australian music fans over the preceding 12 months.  Onstage we see eight performances and 28 awards handed out.  Behind the scenes, The ARIAs is a true gathering of the tribes - an incredible collection of record companies, musicians, managers, international identities and media - joining together to celebrate artistic merit and commercial success.

The ARIAs are 22 years old now but the night just keeps on getting bigger and better.  It really is a memorable event - easily one of the biggest events to be staged in Australia for any reason.  You have to see it to believe it."   Ed St John, Chairman, ARIA Board of Directors.
