The Comedy Central Roast of Larry the Cable Guy Recap

You won’t get to see The Comedy Central Roast of Larry the Cable Guy until it airs March 15 at 10pm/9c, but today you get your first glimpse at the event which taped last night. On a purely personal level, this was a more successful Roast than the last one, which is to say my camera battery didn’t die ten minutes after I arrived and I didn’t get falling-down drunk at the post-party. Even beyond that though, the Roast was a great time.

I shot some videos on the red carpet that ended up being pretty cool despite their shakiness and my stammering. I’ll get those online as soon as possible, but for now, I’ve got pictures from the red carpet and highlights from the Roast, which was very funny. There were no punches pulled, and the guest of honor took all of the barbs in stride.

Who was funniest? It’s hard to say. Greg Giraldo definitely had the most jokes per minute, and each of them killed. Gary Busey was the surprise hit of the night. And obviously Jeffrey Ross was in his element. So, you’ll have to decide for yourself who had the strongest set, but here are some of best jokes of the night:

On Larry’s catchphrase Git-R-Done: “You’ve beaten that concept so hard, it’s now dating Chris Brown.”

Greg Giraldo

“Lisa has a lot in common with Octo-Mom. She’s never given birth, but she has had 80 fingers inside her.”

Toby Keith

“Larry’s been blowing Jeff [Foxworthy] so long, they could be cousins.”

Warren Sapp

“It’s the first time I’ve seen Larry and Toby without their hoods on.”

Jeff Ross

On Gary Busey: “You still look like Buddy Holly. After the plane crash.”

On Lisa Lampanelli: “You fill that dress out like the Grand Canyon on Mars.”

Reno Collier

“Lisa Lampanelli lost 100 pounds, but that’s because she was poached for ivory.”
