Haha I have Flight of the Falcon and the game is terrible. A lot of the other games looked pretty good though. These are really good and look like a lot of hard work so thanks GT.

23 minutes of pure greatness. You have to appreciate the hard work that goes into these retrospectives. I spent so many quarters on that old Star Wars Trilogy Arcade (wow has it been 10yrs since it was first released???)!
My only query is: When will they get to Tie Fighter? I friggin loved that one.

Um... mario has had appearances in over 200 video games. It would be epic, but probably take FOREVER XD
I still agree, nonetheless. :D
Awesome retrospective, can't wait for the rest!!

Well done GT, well done. Especially regarding the long lost NES ventures, those were something else. But Super SW, holy cow. That series would really test your patience.
And hey, who doesn't love Lego Star Wars? =D

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter?
Rebel Assault?
Rouge Squadron?
Force Commander?
Episode I - Racer?
X-Wing Alliance?
Dark Forces?
Where are the PC and N64 games?

Bu bu bu but, when will I see Dark Forces? love that game :(
The super starwars games are really awesome, some of the best snes-titles that were made, and that says a lot. :)
I don't agree with the folks at GT about it being extremely hard.
The only hard part of the games would be the end of Return of the Jedi, but even that's more about frustrating and boring gameplay than the difficulty level. :P

You know for franchises that actually make the transition from film to games successfully, Star Wars definitely takes the cake.
This is actually a good example of "milking" done right.

Dude, I loved it. Great job. It felt much more like a retrospective piece, including details like how that one boss was modeled after an early rancor design while really giving us the epic feel of the franchise. I'd still like to maybe have a little more backstory on some of the games but you cover so many in such a short time, I don't think it's a real problem. Very nicely done. Can't wait for the next one!

This episode was about "The games that brought you each original chapter from start to finish." Does either of those two games fall under that category? I don't think so.

Well what could i say to that!!!??!
It´s crazy and amazing,too.
I can not describe but it seems like they first make a game than the get the license and finish it but i think there much games in stores which have a film license but not even more than this.
and if that games make fun u real don´t care if u play on same places with same things than in the films orI usually find that abit better, cause when u play a game which is 1to1 to the film in the storytelling u don´t will see anything new if u watched the films; and who does not???;u know what be happend and usually there are some awesome games like clone wars and bountyhunter(both are for gamecube and also for wii) show u things of the charakters u wouldn´t kbnow before that is brandnew storyinformation.and if there would be a sucking game:most filmadaptions are worse today in past not all!!

Relax dude, there's EIGHT more retrospectives coming. First was Arcade and 4-bit Original, this was mostly 8 and 16-bit Original, next is 32 and 64 bit Prequel. They're taking some liberties with the chronology to relate the same themes of games.

Gotta rate this very low. Leaving out all of the PC games is downright stupid. X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, X Wing Alliance ... those were some of the greatest star wars gaming moments.

Guys, I'm sure all the expanded stuff is coming, if you noticed this was about the original trilogy and looks like the next one is gonna be the prequel trilogy. So give it some time I'm sure they are gonna have a whole chapter devoted to the expanded universe, meaning your X-wing and Tie Fighter games, Shadows of the Empire and KotoR.

Comon GameTrailers make A Dynasty Warriors retrospective next :D.
I know it's not a huge and popular franchise with over a gazilion fanboys for it's name but it's got a multitude of games on just about any platform to date as far as I know except the WII I think.

Well, R2-D2 did belong to Anakin in the prequels, so keeping it hostage, sort of makes sense....
Of course that never happened in the movie (IV), so,
WTF?!

Its a little weird that they chose to go by subject matter rather than chronology. I see why they did it, obviously, but its an odd feeling watching the retro talk about the original lego star wars in passing as if they had already talked about it. Still, kudos GT, can't wait to see KOTOR, shadows of the empire, and dark forces.

Wow this is amazing...so nostalgic, but I feel they are missing some, but I could be wrong, I couldnt name all the games in the series, and there are still 8 more weeks left...Damn can't believe we have to wait two more weeks for the next "installment"

I can't wait til they go over the PC titles! Some of the best games were on PC! One of my favorites was X-wing vs Tie fighter.
2 weeks is a long wait though but I guess they wanna make sure they get all the details down. Better longer in depth episodes than quick shorter ones that miss information.

Super Empire Strikes Back and Super Return of the Jedi were 12 and 16 mega*BITS*, not megabytes. If they were 12 and 16 megabytes, they'd be the larger than most N64 games. Get it right GT. 8 bits = 1 byte.

Super Star Wars trilogy are the best Star Wars games in my opinion.

Wow that was once again some fantastic work. I loved Super Star Wars and I regret not playing the other two for the system. I faintly remember reading somewhere that this will be a ten part retrospective? What more is there to come, I can't wait to see what games I have still missed. No Rebel Assault yet, no X-Wing Vs. Tie-Fighter. There is so much good stuff coming our way.
Will there be a full length cut in HD for sale when this is finished? I'd love to have that on DVD with menus, chapter selection, , documented timeline, artwork and stuff. Though I'm quite sure LucasArts would object you selling it. Make them an offer, make a real neat box and pay the royalties. I bet there are loads of Star Wars fans out there that would pay some cash to see a well made decumentary about Star Wars videogames.
Or take the working approach and make it Creative Commons, give us the HD video and we'll add the rest. No liability for you.

Star Wars Trilogy Arcade was an awesome game (I put so much money into that thing) but it's a shame it never made it to a console.
With so many Star Wars games around, it's disappointing that there are only a handful of decent ones.
Republic Commando
LEGO Star Wars
Trilogy Arcade
These are the only one's that really stand out for me...
P.S. To all those gamers under 18 who think today's games are too hard, try finishing any of the Super Star Wars games...

I think that's deliberate: this "episode" is just covering games which try to cover the narrative of the films. The X-Wing series all do that to some extent (as does the original Dark Forces) and were probably intended somewhat to be "Star Wars for the PC" at the time, but in most respects they're considered to be spin-offs. I'm sure they'll be dealt with in a later episode. The Dark Forces series and X-Wing series would probably take at least ten minutes to cover :) (DF, JK, JK:MotS, JK2, JKA; XW, TF, XvT, XvT:BOP, XWA).

Man, the Super Star Wars series - those were definitely my favorite. All this nostalgia is bringing a tear to my eye. :)
*hugs SNES and Super Star War series*
Wait a second...is GT seriously skipping all of the Star Wars PC titles?
I mean, this video goes up to Lego Star Wars 2... what about X-WING vs. TIE-FIGHTER? KOTOR? Dark Forces? Jedi Knight? D:
I hope they get to doing those still.

I was wondering what happended to Dark Forces when they skipped to Legos, I guess this is a Star wars CONSULE retrospective, than a true retrospective.I mean, Dark Forces 2 was the first time in first person you got a Lightsaber and force powers in an FPS game. I thought Star Wars Unleashed was going to be for all consoles not just Xbox >.< Also Dark Forces 1 was the first time the Death Star Plans were stolin I think.

Is it a console only Retrospective?

I got to say, Im not the biggest fan of star wars, but I definitely know why its so popular, and GT doing a retrospective of it, it reminds me the simple joys that the movies possesses. Great job, GT, great job.

They said they would take us through every star wars game. Well, the best ones were on pc, but they didn't show a single one of them, like Rogue Squadron or Tie Fighter?

What about X-Wing? And X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter? And Jedi Knight? ANd Knights of the Old Republic? They are all too far off the original material to be mentioned? Or will those games be featured in a later part of the retrospective?

I'm surprised they didn't mention empire strikes back on the N64. Maybe they want to forget about that one, but I thought it was pretty cool for it's time, despite the fact that it was soooooo far-fetched from the films.

dark forces
jigh knights: dark forces 2
jedi knights
jedi knights 2 : jedi outcast
jedi knights: Jedi academy
xwing vs tie fighter
tie fighter 95
xwing alliance
oh yeah, i forgot, the pc isn't a gaming machine, my bad.

I suppose they'll make videos for all the game that where based on events not really related with the movies like kotor and shadows of the empire.
But x-wing and x-wing vs tie fighter do take place on the same timeline that the movie, i think.

I didn't see any X-Wing/TIE Fighter or Jedi Knight footage in the preview at the end. Sad.I bet they slam Star Wars: Obi Wan. The game wasn't that great, but I really enjoyed it for what was basically a launch title. Save for the awful graphics.

I think that Gametrailers has made a big chronological mistake by talking about the games of the new trilogy next. You're speaking about games released since 99-200x when they didn't cover the games of the pc gaming dos era, or the windows dominated era (arguably in my opinion the greatest era lucasarts ever had). If you're going to tell a chronological story, you should have the new trilogy be last as those just showed the total downspin of lucasarts quality games.

Awesome!

I think that these first 2 videos where showing games based directly off of the movies.
Games like Republic Commando, KOTOR, Jedi Academy, and Rebel Aliance will be shown in the next couple vids, if they make anymore.
What confuses me about this line of thought is that since they are doing this to prelude the new Star Wars game, which is not directly from the movies either, then why did they set it up this way.
Also, according to this reasoning, why was Rogue Squadron not shown? that also had main battles from the movies in it.

Star Wars Trilogy Arcade. Now that's awesome arcade gaming right there. Getting on the top 50 high score list in that game feels like unlocking an extremely difficult achievement; you may get pissed from busting your ass just trying to get on the list but once you do, the satisfaction will overwhelm you.

Awesome Episode, GT! 23 Minutes of interesting Retrospective Footage!
The "Super Star Wars" Series & the "Star Wars Trilogy Arcade" are some of my favorite games from the franchise. Awesome as the SNES titles were, they are very difficult!

I have all three super star wars. The medium setting IS hard as hell! I was wondering why the time jump from SNES to 360, but it was because of the games of the original saga. Next time is games of the prequels and then the different franchises like KOTOR, battlefront, jedi knights and etc.

I had the Super Star Wars for the SNES! It was one of my most loved games for the SNES. Ah sweet memories! ^_^
I also played the Star Wars Triliogy Arcade game when I was in line for Star Wars Episode 1. They let me play it for free cause Iw as first in line and they let the first 10 people in line play the game to help promot it. It was cool but I got my ass kicked when it came to the saber battle with Vader.

I wonder. Will the retrospective include games that were Star Wars related and took place around the same time as the original trilogy. An example would be Shadows of the Empire for N64. As well as serious prequels like Knights of the Old Republic series.

Good retrospective so far. Covered a lot of stuff in one episode. Most of which I had never heard of. Although now I wanna try my hand at those difficult Super Nintendo games.

10/10 for sure. That was great. I forgot about that Star Wars trilogy arcade game. It's fun. I'll have to play it again some time if it's around somewhere.
Can't wait for the next one

I played that Star Wars Trilogy Arcade (where you battle Boba Fett and Darth Vader with a light saber) at a Dave and Busters. It was pretty fun.
I have Super Star Wars and Super Empire Strikes Back for my SNES.
Did they mention the Gamecube games? Or the N64?

I hope this isn't too blasphemous, because I'm a huge star wars fan, but I find this retrospective kind of boring. I mean, a huge amount of work went into it, and it's cool information... but there must have been a more interesting subject (franchise) to do a retrospective on.
Maybe a Mario retrospective... I think he's been in (at least at a cameo level) over 100 games.
I dunno, I'll wait this one out... maybe I'll find the next episodes more interesting.

RaptorLee's #1 favorite Star Wars-based videogame of all time:SEGA's Model-3 Arcade version of "Star Wars Trilogy Arcade".... my personal fave, at least!
My #2 Star Wars videogame adaptation that left an enthused impression upon my mind:The SEGA 32X version of the SEGA Model-1 Arcade game popularly known as "Star Wars Arcade"!
Alright, so Super Return of the Jedi(SNES)was always a challenging 2D, sprite-based, action platformer... yet I can still recall fond-frustrating memories of that specific 16-bit ROM cartridge-based Star Wars videogame, from my childhood! The opening Star Wars theme had initially sounded so awesome to me, running on the 16-bit SNES/Super FamiCom's built-in "Sony custom-designed sound-processor"! Frag yesss!!

Woooow, amazing stuff.I never touched the NES games, but of course the Super Star Wars Trilogy was great, and totally pushing the system to it's limit. And Lego Star Wars was such a great idea, but, Star Wars Trilogy Arcade was GODLY!!!I simply couldn't BELIEVE that game because it was absurdly advanced for the time it came out, was a huge amount of fun, and like was mentioned, had FIRST PERSON LIGHTSABER FIGHTS that were an absolute blast to play.I hope i get to find that one around some time again.

Most of you people have no clue what you're talking about. Oh they miss this game and that game and Christ, learn to pay attention. None of the game you're whining about fit into that category. Stop being so noob and just wait, more episodes are coming to cover the other games.

None of the game you're whining about fit into that category. Stop being so noob and just wait, more episodes are coming to cover the other games.
I love retrospectives and this one was long over due! I'm still waiting on retrospectives for the Metal Gear, Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil Franchises!

They seem to be jumping all over the place with this one. I remember a couple of games on the Atari that didn't even get mentioned - one where you used your light saber on a probe, I believe.

These are really good, but damn is the order all over the place. How many episodes is this supposed to be? Ah well, gues we'll eventually see what they're up to.

I feel old, i didn't realize i played Episode one, phantom menace on the playstation (original) that was about 9 effing years ago! seems like yesterday really. And theres some star wars games on the playstation theyre forgetting...not to mention the n64 ones...is it cause they didnt follow the star wars movies? Maybe theyll do them after the ones that rip off the movies?

Yeah but they're not doing spin-offs or Episodes 1-3 until future retrospectives. That was what was mostly seen on the N64, so that's why they didn't touch on that topic just yet.
Don't worry, they'll talk about the N64.

Yes, but none of them were from the Original Trilogy.
They are doing each Trilogy seperatly. Next will be the First three Episodes, probably two Retro videso on them, then the other cannon games. Like Rogue Sqaudron and Knights of the Old Republic.

It's stunning to get this retrospective.. one of the biggest gaming franchises around with so wide varieties of games. Most are low quality but still.. there haven't been many games which have been surfaced in so many different packages.
Starting to feel a bit old though, I watch them and go "oh hey I played this when I was a kid!". And I wasn't even born when the first three movies hit the cinemas!
Keep it up, can't wait to see what's in store!

That first game looked insane! Luke fighting Vader who turns into a giant Scorpion?!? Wonder what the devs were one when they made that.
Loved the original Star Wars game on the Gameboy. Ah, the memories.

It's like you skipped every game from 1993 to 2002. Or you just skipped PC games. What about X-Wing, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight..., even Yoda Stories? I'm shocked.

This second part is ONLY for the Original Trilogy games, the next video will be about the New Trilogy and later spin-offs like Jedi Knight and KotOR.

I've always been a HUGE SW video game and movie fan. I remember playing the Arcade game on my Sega 32X =) And I still enjoying going to the mall to play the Trilogy Arcade (its become incredibly easy to beat on 1 quarter, but always fun).
Looking forward to the next episode in 2wks =)

Ok....what was the theme of this episode? Where are all the PC games? X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight. They were all released 1993-1997. Will there be a special episode for the PC games? I'm confused.

That sure brought back a lot of good memories. I remember being in Las Vagas and beating Star Wars Trilogy Arcade since I couldn't gamble. Took a lot of quarters, but it sure was worth it. Great retrospective.

Segas StarWars Arcade Trilogy is so awesome. Go to any good arcade and they are sure to still have it set up because it is genuinly really fun and looks good even today.

I'll have to admit that the 'Namco' version is utterly the most unique of the games. I could not stop laughing. Poor 'Chewie' looked like he was wearing a badly knitted sweater.
Super Star Wars for the SNES, LOVED playing that series. Awesome music tracks and awesome gameplay. Always loved the boss battles. You aren't lying when you said those games bring back fond memories. I so feel it.
Wow! Another great retro.

Agreed, i do find myself quoting a lot of star wars
like the other day i was driving around, when i was pulled over by the police. they walked up to my car and said "son, how long have you had these droids" i replied "about 2 years, their up for sale if you want them" then he replied "have you any identification?" i then replied "These are not the droids your looking for" and got away smoothly :-P

Lol, That is hilarious! I don't know if I should believe it or not. Even if it isn't true, it is very clever.

I know most won't agree with me, but Shadow of the Empire on 64 and Dark Forces 1 & 2 as well as Jedi Outcast and Academy were really great games. I am surprised they haven't at least been shown in any gameplay montages. I suppose they will be in a separate "outside of the main canon" segment later on.

and what happend with Jedi Outcast? Jedi Academy? The Empire Strikes Back? Knights of the Old Republic? Those games rock? And that fighting game with Star Wars which appeard in ScrewAttack's Top Ten Worst Fighting Games? They didn't mentioned any game of episode I to III, like Star Wars Episode I Racer

There are still eight parts to go. This one just covered the original Trilogy, the next looks like it will cover the new trilogy-episodes I through III, and then they will probably get to the rest. Which is what I'm personally looking forward to finding out about. At this rate it seams that they'll finish up around July 20th. o_O

Nobody ever talks about the Commodore 64 as a huge gaming system back in the Day, it was the best computer gaming system for many years during the 80s. I had tons of games on the 64 from 83-87 Then an Amiga until the IBM pc finally got into games and started putting out really good games like the first Mechwarrior, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and several others I cant even remember now. But the Nintendo was big in consoles around then and was finally as good as the C64 was. But it was still far below the Amiga in graphics ability.
Anyway Im sure the C64 had at least some Star Wars games. Although I cant remember any. The first game I remember from LucasArts was on the C64 called Labyrinth. They would go onto doing many adventure games like Day of Tentacle, Secret of Monkey Island, etc..

wow,,I remember playing everyone one of those games from the NES onwards..so many good memories, even if some of them are of bitching about the difficulty of those games. Can't believe they completely blazed past some of the spin off games like Shadows of the Empire.

Im kinda dissapointed they havent mentioned KOTOR and Jedi Academy and Jedi Knight series for the next episode. Those were some of the best SW games...well KOTOR I and II definetly war.
The villains in KOTOR were a lot more interesting and cool then Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Darth Sidious, put together. And any other sith in the movies.

I sure hope you guys are going to talk about the Jedi Knight games. Specifically JK II: Jedi Outcast. That's one of my fav Star Wars games of all time.

Maybe they are doing the games that where made for the films first? I mean it seems that way to me so far. All the games they have coverd so far have been based around the story of the films.

im kinda disappointed they didnt have time to cover the Jedi Knight series such as Dark Forces, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy still being played on PC's surprisingly. (im actually in a clan for it which is still pretty darn active) hope the next episodes cover it because i love how those games simulate real lightsaber battles, something everyone dies to have in a good star wars games.

No, they didn't. This 24-minute video is only covering games which allow you to play through an entire ORIGINAL Star Wars episode. This does not include anything that is only part of an episode or any original content such as Jedi Knight games, space simulators, space strategy games, or even anything like Yoda Stories. Only --complete-- "recreations" of an --entire-- episode.
I know these videos are being spaced out quite a bit but GameTrailers Retrospectives are very good at giving full coverage over their topic with a wealth of information about them all. THey'll get to all of these "original content" games in time, just be patient.
(Jedi Outcast was the best Star Wars game, btw. [2 cents])

I think that after they do the Prequel episode we will see the spin off episode.
So far it was the first games.
The Original Trilogy
Next it will be the Prequels.
I assume that they are going to put the RPGs'(i.e. Galaxies KOTOR and KOTOR 2) in one episode.
I would think that they are going to put all of the Dark Forces games in one episode(which is now up to Jedi Knight Jedi Academy).
And then I think that they will do an episode on the Tie Fighter, X-Wing, and Rogue Squadron games.

The Super Star Wars games were the absolute favorite of all time. Then i traded them for a game that sucked and I never got them back.
Never heard from that damn sonnuvabitch again.

That retro music is so awesome! I remember playing those SNES ones years after they were out and they still blew my mind with awesome! I remember when I took to trip to New York in school we went to this multi-story arcade, and one of the games they were testing out was a virtual reality lightsaber battle, had a helmet and lightsaber you held, unfortunatly the one I got at least sucked ass and couldn't recognize anything I did like I wanted lol

I just hope they'll include Star Wars: Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight Dark Forces, Outcast as well as X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter and Rebel Assault.Feels like they're leaving a lot of PC games out :/
Forgot to mention Rogue Squadron 3D ;-)

WTF kind of retrospective is this? You skipped over tons of Star Wars games in the timeline. What about Shadows of the Empire for the N64, & Tie Fighter & all those other classic 90s PC Star Wars games?

Although I am not a big fan of the movies, and I can't say I've played many of the games, this retrospective is pure excellence. The Super Star Wars game has appealing graphics, and I love the boss designs. I would have rather seen a Contra, Resident Evil, Ninja Gaiden, or Metal Gear Solid retrospective, but this is quality. The force is strong with this one...

wait... I have yet to see PC games. I guessing those are different segments.
I cut my gaming teeth on Rebel Assult 1 ... glorious times. X-Wing vs. TIE fighter anyone?

Out of all those games, it seems the SNES ones are the most complete game out on the movies. Though the side stories were also great, the main concentration was still on the original story line.
Phew, a movie that is still hot with games nowadays, just amazing!

that episode was about the original trilogy only hence the in 2 weeks there will be another then most likely a few more.

Umm I thought this would be a chronological thing they skipped a whole crap ton of games lol. What about Shadows of the Empire and the Jedi Knight series? Maybe they will do those in the next one. I remember Jedi Power battles it was pretty fun an helped satisfy that urge everyone had to kill stuff with a lightsaber after watching episode 1 lol.
Anyway those SNES games looked like Metal Slug with star wars characters. An the NES game is just plain weird an seemed to reuse a lot of objects from other games like SMB2.

when GT skipped straight to lego star wars i said "what about shadows of the empire?". it then dawned on me that they're not going in chronological order by release, rather by each movie. they did all the episode 4-6 games.....now they'll move onto episodes 1-3, and after that i'm sure they'll cover the twenty billion other star wars games that have dropped, like the rogue squadron's, SOTE and KOTOR, etc. personally i can't wait for those.

god i can only imagine if they touch on star wars galaxies. i played that game for 2 years and it's the only mmo i've ever played that gradually got worse as time went on. and man i loved that game, but it's hella boring now. space flight is pretty cool though.

@Everyone saying "what about [game title]"
Notice how our friendly GT announcer said that the next special is in two weeks, and they're counting down until the fall release of SW:TFU? Yeah. We're going to get a LOT of these retrospectives. So calm down.

I remember playing the star wars trilogy arcade in a bowling alley a long time ago, it was the best. I really hate inverted controls, so when I got to the bonus stages with the lightsaber I ended up dieing on the vader duel. I also played the star wars games on the NES and the SNES. I love Star Wars :P...

I think the best starwars game is Knights Of The Old republic witch was a RPG for pc that took place 3000 years before the movies. Try it out its a soloid game with plenty of side quests and minigames such as racing like maning a turrerts and solving murder misterys and pleny of of other exiting gamplay. Play it!

I still have Super Return of the Jedi for my Game Gear around here somewhere.
I wonder if the Super Star Wars games will be seen again on Virtual Console?
I can hardly wait for the next one, a lot of the prequel games were bad to mediocre, but some were fairly good.
Truth be told, I'm most anxious for the episode in which they talk about the Spin-off games like X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and Dark Forces.

The Super Star Wars series for the SNES were some of the best games ever made for that console. Pure Win.
But.. where's the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games? Those 2 of my top 10 favorite games of all time.

I guess to date the Super Trilogy on the SNES is still the best adaptation of the original trilogy. Well, serious adaptation anyway. The Lego Star Wars is pretty good, too.

Well, It appears he is only talking about games that somehow follows the storyline. That excludes most of PC games like FPS, Rebel assault etc. It's a shame thou =/

I'm always blown away at just how awesome these retrospectives are! I remember playing just about all the games in this particular video, and especially Super Empire (the best of the 3 Super games).
I'm looking forward to the episode where the Expanded Universe gets covered, because those are some of the GREATEST Star Wars games ever made. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, I was hoping to see a lot more! This was not the right choice. This should've been chronological and there should've been all the most important ones in it regardless of the storyline.

Hey, I just realized that the New Trilogy is the only one that has a bunch of BAD games made about it. That's kinda funny, since it's so much worse than the Original Trilogy. Maybe videogame companies decided to make it realistic...

Well..... maybe they'll rate in the next retrospective, I believe this and last retrospective was mainly to talk about the classic star wars games and I think this entire retrospective is about Star Wars games based on the Numerical Star Wars movies, for instance Dark Forces is a side story and the chance of Kotr being reviewed, although I wish it would be might not happen. It seems like only the numerical Star Wars games or ones based off of them for instance, lego star wars are being reviewed.
I loved Dark Forces btw :), and this retrospective was outstanding, thank you for creating this retrospective

Great video! Really does a good job going over all the games. Super Star Wars still haunts me to this day. I owned it for a long time and couldn't beat it. Even with Game Genie cheats I still never went all the way to the end.

Real3D (a division of Lockheed Martin) created the MODEL 3 board in 1995, first used in Virtua Fighter 3 which was released in 1996. A later version of the board, MODEL 3 Step 2.1, powered Star Wars Trilogy.
The MODEL 3 board was NOT used in Desert Tank or Behind Enemy Lines. Those games used the older MODEL 2 board, created by the same group of engineers when they were at Martin Marietta in 1993. The first MODEL 2 game to be released was the most successful arcade game ever, Daytona USA. There were no Star Wars games made for MODEL 2 though.

these retrospectives are so incredibly crafted, I wouldn't be surprised if they were picked up by G4, A&E;, or History channel. they are interesting to listen to and fun to hear about.

I'm not a Star Wars nerd but i love the games (especially the classics) and I love the movies. I've watched all the movies more times then I can count. The older movies were great and the Star Wars super trilogy was epic for it's time, but even now looking back, the game still looks epic and I would enjoy playing it.

IF YOU AGREE PASTE THIS WHEN EVER YOU COMMENT A VIDEO FOR GTD\r
HD and SD videos must share the same user comments and ratings !!!!!!!!!!!!
Inste of having 2 click-able videos that are exactly the same other than quality, it would just clean things up and be more efficent for the same video and both of its resolutions to share the same ratings, views, and comments. This way users can easily see what the GT community thinks of a game without switching through videos only because of resolution. This should be an add on to the last GT update. When watching a GT video, viewers do not rate on quality of video but its content and relations to other games.

As an older gamer / Star Wars fan, I have got to see a ton of these games. I would have to say that Battlefront was one of the best. The Pod racer for the PS2 was pretty decent. (can't remember its name off hand). I loved that old 2600 Hoth battle (back then, haha) The arcade was very fun as well. Time to rent Force unleashed and see what they can bring for us.

Yeah, the Namco game is bizarre to say the least, but still fun in a weird way. Check it out online sometime. Definitely a time waster for sure, but an entertaining one at that.

Hoth ruled on the 2600.

Man, the trilogy on the SNES was really hard. I remember that i used to rent the carts, but never got too far.
Lego Star Wars is also a good SW game, mostly because its purpose was to tell the story in a funny way (best part is when Vader tells Luke is his son on Bespin, that was golden)

The first game transformed Vader into a scorpion... wow! That made me laugh out loud. I agree that the SNES trilogy was quite difficult - the only one I was remotely good at was A New Hope.

Lightsaber battles on the NES games looks silly :D Watching it I can hardly tell whether Luke is hitting or getting hit. Good fun, though. Star Wars is bloody epic.

I want a hooker and some crack!
AMEN!
Can't wait for that episode.
It has been confirmed....pretty much
I want a hooker and some crack!
That is a lie.
My only query is: When will they get to Tie Fighter? I friggin loved that one.
Um... mario has had appearances in over 200 video games. It would be epic, but probably take FOREVER XD
I still agree, nonetheless. :D
Awesome retrospective, can't wait for the rest!!
And hey, who doesn't love Lego Star Wars? =D
I REALLY hope you guys go over Jedi Outcast. Its one of my all time favorite games!
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter?
Rebel Assault?
Rouge Squadron?
Force Commander?
Episode I - Racer?
X-Wing Alliance?
Dark Forces?
The super starwars games are really awesome, some of the best snes-titles that were made, and that says a lot. :)
I don't agree with the folks at GT about it being extremely hard.
The only hard part of the games would be the end of Return of the Jedi, but even that's more about frustrating and boring gameplay than the difficulty level. :P
Love it
Agreed. It was more like Star Bores.
most of those don't fall into the original trilogy which is what this episode was about I'm sure they will cover everything the retrospectives are always very complete
so much memories...
we all do
This is actually a good example of "milking" done right.
Most of them he said DID fall into the original trilogy...
but I still cant wait for the Kotor episode!
No SverreBOO... you have turned to the dark side of the Force!!! How could you?? :)
WAY TO GO GT
Man, I love these Retrospectives
the next episode's about the prequels, KOTOR's way before that
This episode was about "The games that brought you each original chapter from start to finish." Does either of those two games fall under that category? I don't think so.
Xwing
Xwing vs Tie fighter
And the Xwing vs Tie fighter LAN edition
You where a pilot in some of the battles in the game and doing things in the background on the movies
These are not going to be mentioned?
I know its PC but come on
I wonder how they're going to keep this up for 13 episodes.
Neverthe very interesting and informative as always.
I know it's not a huge and popular franchise with over a gazilion fanboys for it's name but it's got a multitude of games on just about any platform to date as far as I know except the WII I think.
Jedi Knight 2
Jedi Knight 3
Kotor 1
Kotor 2
these were awesome! (played them on PC :P)
Nothing but love for you guys!
But I am hating the two week wait! =(
seems they missed a few games, like the n64 games, rouge squadron, shadows of the empire, and those pc games.
Keep making them GT!
Of course that never happened in the movie (IV), so,
WTF?!
the guy above said the same thing :| Then I love them even more, ha!
Thank goodness for that! I firmly believe that X-wing and Tie Fighter are the reasons why I'm a gamer today!
Thank goodness for that! I firmly believe that X-wing and Tie Fighter are the reasons why I'm a gamer today!
Same here ^.^ Damn these are awesome Retrorespectives! Wheres my Emus!?
i think it said in the previous retrospective that this episode is all about the games that follow the story of the original star wars trilogy, dark forces, tie fighter et al, are great games but have their own story-lines and will probably be in the next retrospective or the one after that... i havent watched it yet so could be wrong!!
yea true true
2 weeks is a long wait though but I guess they wanna make sure they get all the details down. Better longer in depth episodes than quick shorter ones that miss information.
This maybe the best video game documentary ever!
Did you guys read the synopsis? they aren't going by the order the games were released
Awesome retrospective, guys, can see all the hard work and editing involved.
Super Star Wars trilogy are the best Star Wars games in my opinion.
Best thing about Gametrailer are their Retrospective videos, I can't wait to see some of my favorite series in the future, of course with the same voice.
Wow, I forgot how bad it was.
when tthey cover the stuff that was never in the movies
Anyway, good job GT! Keep up the great work!
This has what to do with stars wars.
Cant wait for the next episode because the first trilogy episode 1-3 are my favotire episodes of the 2 trilogies.
Looking forward to III for sure.
they well are
The Trilogy arcade game kicked a lot of ass. It was awesome.
I can't wait for the next retrospective to come out.
Yeah, this game is so much fun. I highly recommend spending your quarters if you find this one sitting around your movie theater or arcade....
so many star wars games!
i still pump quarters into that rust bucket! lol
Oopsies.
i really want to see what they say about the Jedi Knight games.
Oopsies.
yeah, they haven't mentioned those because they are considered expanded universe, they may have taken place during the first trilogy but didn't feature in the films, they will cover expanded universe stuff in later episodes i think.
I wonder if starwars arcade trilogy could have a high quality remake for the wii, that would be cool!
This episode was about games developed around episodes four through six. Next episode will feature the games made around episodes one through three, which would probably be the best choice to place Episode One Racer in.
And as always I love Lego Star Wars!
they'll get back to it XD

You're forgetting the KotOR games and the X-Wing series. :)
They'll probably get back to them later though... Hopefully.
I know!!! If they do not review Shadows of the Empire i will hunt them down because it is the best star wars game eva! other than KOTOR of course lol
You're forgetting the KotOR games and the X-Wing series. :)
OMG how did I forget those. Especially KOTOR (the first one anyway)
far better then all the other shit that people are turning out now
What about Goldeneye 007?
Alo with, Star Wars Jedi outcast 1 & 2.
You're forgetting the KotOR games and the X-Wing series. :)
And Jedi knight! jedi outcast is amazing
The Dark Forces series and X-Wing series would probably take at least ten minutes to cover :) (DF, JK, JK:MotS, JK2, JKA; XW, TF, XvT, XvT:BOP, XWA).
dude there will be 10 episodes
*hugs SNES and Super Star War series*
Wait a second...is GT seriously skipping all of the Star Wars PC titles?
I mean, this video goes up to Lego Star Wars 2... what about X-WING vs. TIE-FIGHTER? KOTOR? Dark Forces? Jedi Knight? D:
I hope they get to doing those still.
Stool Softener?
those are extended universe. the episode after that should have those.
Not all shit is hard. some shit is squishy
Is it a console only Retrospective?
carnt be console only they had the trilogy game in it
no shit
the next episode will be far more better with the really good games i played a lot in my childhood with my friends on the ps1 !
LOL! That would be confusing, then the angry video game nerd can diss GT!
rougue squadron ?
star wars shadows of the empire?
mmm
starwars battlefront?
i think those are good games
Not quite, but keep trying.
This one was actually pretty funny. Darth Vader turns into a scorpion. Tee hee hee!
rebel asault
rebel assault2
rebellion
dark forces
jigh knights: dark forces 2
jedi knights
jedi knights 2 : jedi outcast
jedi knights: Jedi academy
xwing vs tie fighter
tie fighter 95
xwing alliance
oh yeah, i forgot, the pc isn't a gaming machine, my bad.
I suppose they'll make videos for all the game that where based on events not really related with the movies like kotor and shadows of the empire.
But x-wing and x-wing vs tie fighter do take place on the same timeline that the movie, i think.
If you know can you message it to me.
God I love retrospectives.
Oooo cant wait.. :D<3 lol lego starwars was fun the first time around it.. after that.,. neh.. ^^' hehe
ads really work,
i want a hot-dog now!!
oh yeah star wars is cool
Theres going to be a lot more then 3 episodes to this. So, your right, your bad. Dumbass.
If you know can you message it to me.
God I love retrospectives.
Dual of fates ( or dual of THE fates) from episode I
People saying they missed games should not worry, I think they said they were doing this every two weeks until fall so thats a lot of episodes to cover all games or at least most of them
Games like Republic Commando, KOTOR, Jedi Academy, and Rebel Aliance will be shown in the next couple vids, if they make anymore.
What confuses me about this line of thought is that since they are doing this to prelude the new Star Wars game, which is not directly from the movies either, then why did they set it up this way.
Also, according to this reasoning, why was Rogue Squadron not shown? that also had main battles from the movies in it.
...only a Star Wars nerd would complain about the chronology of a video game retrospective...
most of the games are hilarius, really enjoyed watching=) thanx, great show=)
So there is more? this retrospective is pretty good.
i love retrospectives
The "Super Star Wars" Series & the "Star Wars Trilogy Arcade" are some of my favorite games from the franchise. Awesome as the SNES titles were, they are very difficult!
...only a Star Wars nerd would complain about the chronology of a video game retrospective...
lol ure prolly right. But who cares if he is? Idiots do.
I cant wait of the Retrospective of the N64-Times of Star Wars Games!
The game w/ Dash Rendar was so much win.
I also played the Star Wars Triliogy Arcade game when I was in line for Star Wars Episode 1. They let me play it for free cause Iw as first in line and they let the first 10 people in line play the game to help promot it. It was cool but I got my ass kicked when it came to the saber battle with Vader.
The game w/ Dash Rendar was so much win.
Damn straight!
There should be light saber duel game like that on the Wii that would be pretty cool.
Can't wait for the next one
Great retrospective, thx GT!
I have Super Star Wars and Super Empire Strikes Back for my SNES.
Did they mention the Gamecube games? Or the N64?
This retrospective was about the original trilogy, spin-offs will probobly appear in a latter episode.
and The Star Wars Trilogy Arcade look really nice !!
CORN ON THE KABOB
Maybe a Mario retrospective... I think he's been in (at least at a cameo level) over 100 games.
I dunno, I'll wait this one out... maybe I'll find the next episodes more interesting.

I think that when they get to the more recent games, it'll pick up considerably.
As it goes now, I do like them though.
lol I was wondering about that to, GT better include it in their next vid
Bloody console fanboys.
I'am with you on that one.
Great Retrospective Episode 10/10
Bloody console fanboys.
Dude, chill, read the description: "The games that brought you each original chapter from start to finish." Those you've mentioned will be presented too, in the next episodes of the retrospective. I'm also waiting for it.
Bloody console fanboys.
Aye, what the fuck is wrong with gametrailers?!?!?!??!?!?
Outstanding Star Wars RetrospectiveII, GameTrailers.com!!
Bark for Star Wars Arcade32X joy!!!
Bloody console fanboys.
Yeah, those were awesome. WTF.
What do you mean "was"?
Great awesome video!!.
Yeah, what he said.
Yeah, what he said.
Ya i know hope there talk about rouge squadron. man that game was the Shit!!
None of the game you're whining about fit into that category. Stop being so noob and just wait, more episodes are coming to cover the other games.
and being a douche aparrently
there are gong to be 10 of these, i think the'll come later.
o.o That was in the first Episode of this, dude, lol.
and being a douche aparrently
lol touche...
there are gong to be 10 of these, i think the'll come later.
actually more like 14...
Oh teh_memories. :(
I love these GT Retrospectives. Always informative and entertaining.
Starting to feel a bit old though, I watch them and go "oh hey I played this when I was a kid!". And I wasn't even born when the first three movies hit the cinemas!
Keep it up, can't wait to see what's in store!
Loved the original Star Wars game on the Gameboy. Ah, the memories.
cant wait for episode 3
And why don't they have the pc starwars games! Kotor FTW!
a full retrospective would be madness.
95% of all star wars games are lame anyways.
Looking forward to the next episode in 2wks =)
That game was impossible.
And why don't they have the pc starwars games! Kotor FTW!
You moron, he said "Duel", not "DO"
a full retrospective would be madness.
I think thats what their gonna do /sarcasim
This is for those unfortunate souls who don't...or those who like Nostalgia
madness? THIS IS GT!!!!!
madness? THIS IS GT!!!!!
BAHAHAHAHA!! Awooooh! Awoooh! Awoooh!
Wow, this is so freaky, i was playing it yesterday.

Great Retrospective ;)
There are still eight parts to go. This one just covered the original Trilogy, the next looks like it will cover the new trilogy-episodes I through III, and then they will probably get to the rest. Which is what I'm personally looking forward to finding out about. At this rate it seams that they'll finish up around July 20th. o_O
What about Shadows of the Empire though? ...
Anyway Im sure the C64 had at least some Star Wars games. Although I cant remember any. The first game I remember from LucasArts was on the C64 called Labyrinth. They would go onto doing many adventure games like Day of Tentacle, Secret of Monkey Island, etc..
The villains in KOTOR were a lot more interesting and cool then Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Darth Sidious, put together. And any other sith in the movies.
I sure hope you guys are going to talk about the Jedi Knight games. Specifically JK II: Jedi Outcast. That's one of my fav Star Wars games of all time.
same lol
but super star wars looks awesome
10/10
Duelling that light saber with joystick looked really great! damn :D:D:D
Travesty.
super star wars looks kick ass
arcade game that look that bad don't interest me
i remember playing star wars trilogy arcade like 2 years ago or so
that game was so awesome and a bit hard
flight of the falcon looks so crappy
ubisoft's game looks amazing
lego star wars is just plain fun
this retrospective is so awesome
can't wait for the next episode
zomg tru dat. the first game i ever bought was tie fighter. dammit! they were still on floppy discs!
Maybe they are doing the games that where made for the films first? I mean it seems that way to me so far. All the games they have coverd so far have been based around the story of the films.
zomg tru dat. the first game i ever bought was tie fighter. dammit! they were still on floppy discs!
guys its a starwars retrospective, there are still a few more episodes, in fact i wouldnt be surprised it they came out with 6 so be patient
Very good video! Can't wait again for next week! :)
Seriously, they should make an arcade game where lightsaber battles are the whole thing!
That series was so freaking hard, and I didn't do so badly even when I was a little kid lol, I will never forget the boss battle in Dagobah, oh man what a hard fight.
I can't wait for the Podracer retro, that game made me rage hard, and when we finally get to the PC games I'll shit bricks.
And that's why they're making ten episodes.
i love playing that arcade game. it is so awesome
there is not a single Star Wars PC game mentioned. X-Wing, Tie Fighter, the Jedi Knight games, Rebel Assault and so on.... I hope they do an extra episode on PC games, would be nice. Still, I was pretty disappointed when they arrived in the current century without even mentioning all those games.
they forgot the great shooters on the pc!
this is part 2, theres going to be at least 10 parts...
[2 cents])

Jdi Outcast was awesome and i love that game to death!!!!!!!!!!!! and uhh thank you GT for making this awesome retrospective as good as ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mad!
Never heard from that damn sonnuvabitch again.
thanks
thanks
Same :D.
Forgot to mention Rogue Squadron 3D ;-)
I think they were only putting in the games directed at the orginal moveis
thnx a bunch
can't wait for Unleashed xD
classic gaming goodness!!
I cut my gaming teeth on Rebel Assult 1 ... glorious times. X-Wing vs. TIE fighter anyone?
Phew, a movie that is still hot with games nowadays, just amazing!
Anyway those SNES games looked like Metal Slug with star wars characters. An the NES game is just plain weird an seemed to reuse a lot of objects from other games like SMB2.
I still play it sometimes today (2/4/08)
Good memory's...
STAR WARS F T W I GHOT ALL THE MOVIES
I still play it sometimes today (2/4/08)
:) Republic Commando finally gets some decent exposure
when GT skipped straight to lego star wars i said "what about shadows of the empire?". it then dawned on me that they're not going in chronological order by release, rather by each movie. they did all the episode 4-6 games.....now they'll move onto episodes 1-3, and after that i'm sure they'll cover the twenty billion other star wars games that have dropped, like the rogue squadron's, SOTE and KOTOR, etc. personally i can't wait for those.
can't wait for the next one
Notice how our friendly GT announcer said that the next special is in two weeks, and they're counting down until the fall release of SW:TFU? Yeah. We're going to get a LOT of these retrospectives. So calm down.
Cant wait for the next installment :)
I still have Super Return of the Jedi for my Game Gear around here somewhere.
I wonder if the Super Star Wars games will be seen again on Virtual Console?
I can hardly wait for the next one, a lot of the prequel games were bad to mediocre, but some were fairly good.
Truth be told, I'm most anxious for the episode in which they talk about the Spin-off games like X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and Dark Forces.
they are doing the prequels in the next episode
there is like a hundred starwars games
its one of the best arcade games i ever had the fortune to play
But.. where's the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games? Those 2 of my top 10 favorite games of all time.
they should I only have super empire i wana play the other 2
Those are all EU this is based directly off the film.
he said in the closing "in two weeks"
Ha ha
I wanted to see them here, It's been a long while since I don't play them!
Great video.
they are doing eps 1-3 later its will probably be in that one
but now since i seen this video i should probably play super starwars
time to dig out my snes again
If I ever get rich, I'm buying one!
I'm looking forward to the episode where the Expanded Universe gets covered, because those are some of the GREATEST Star Wars games ever made. Keep up the good work!
They'll probably mention that on the next one since most of the missions take place during the prequel trilogy
I wanted to see them here, It's been a long while since I don't play them!
Yeah, I was hoping to see a lot more! This was not the right choice. This should've been chronological and there should've been all the most important ones in it regardless of the storyline.
Let's see part3 or 4 or 5 ... 6 ?
shouldn't it be up today?
yeah that was hot
hell yeah I was thinking the same thing... also where the bloody hell was rogue squadron on the gamecube?? that games awesome I still play it once in a while now!
Well..... maybe they'll rate in the next retrospective, I believe this and last retrospective was mainly to talk about the classic star wars games and I think this entire retrospective is about Star Wars games based on the Numerical Star Wars movies, for instance Dark Forces is a side story and the chance of Kotr being reviewed, although I wish it would be might not happen. It seems like only the numerical Star Wars games or ones based off of them for instance, lego star wars are being reviewed.
I loved Dark Forces btw :), and this retrospective was outstanding, thank you for creating this retrospective
yeah it should, wonder where its at.

TIE Fighter.
Best Star Wars games ever.
Best space sims ever.
Yeah where are these. This is what I was waiting to look at and it wasn't mentioned. I'm about to watch the 3rd one but I'm skeptical.
Anyway the flight sims for PC in the early 90s were awesome.
Obviously did a lot of research to review some of those (almost) forgotten games.
Nice one GT.
I hope they have more for all the sw fans
gametrailerz loves you too. :)
I have to add, WHERE IS SHADOW OF THE EMPIRE?!?!
WTF.
namco's version is good for laughs.
Looks like they took a japenese game and just change the sprites to make a star wars game...
So are you buddy. Everyone has their own opinions, just because u dont like star wars dosent mean u need to blurt it out at everyone.

Swoosh!
Its at my local laser quest
HD and SD videos must share the same user comments and ratings !!!!!!!!!!!!
Inste of having 2 click-able videos that are exactly the same other than quality, it would just clean things up and be more efficent for the same video and both of its resolutions to share the same ratings, views, and comments. This way users can easily see what the GT community thinks of a game without switching through videos only because of resolution. This should be an add on to the last GT update. When watching a GT video, viewers do not rate on quality of video but its content and relations to other games.
Thats what she said?
Lol. I had to.

Luke & Vader where U thought the Joy Stick was your Saber & - Just think what Episode 5 & 6 LooKed Like when Luke Faced Vader, well it was that Close & Personal when U played this Game Face to Face Like 2 Feet Away from each other not doing Flips or far away Slices only Face To Face Like Obi Won & Vaders Light Saber Duel in Episode 4. That was the Climatic Game of the Late 90's & still to this day its that good - I Love Rogue Squadren II but I'd Take the Star Wars Triligy 1998 Arcade System over Rogue Squadren II Any Day! The Game Play,,Graphics,,& Music is what made that Game A Climatic Master Piece I must say!
yeah wtf were those guys smoking?

STAR WARS 4EVER!!
Yeah, the Namco game is bizarre to say the least, but still fun in a weird way. Check it out online sometime. Definitely a time waster for sure, but an entertaining one at that.
Hoth ruled on the 2600.
Lego Star Wars is also a good SW game, mostly because its purpose was to tell the story in a funny way (best part is when Vader tells Luke is his son on Bespin, that was golden)
If Helen Keller made a Star Wars movie, it would be better than The Phantom Menace.
Really unique games that brings back great memories :)
Indeed, I'd love to give it a try some day.
lego star wars was awsome and funny!
