Rahal Letterman Racing Still Hoping to Compete This Year

Inside INdiana Business.com Report

A spokesman for Rahal Letterman Racing (RLR) tells Inside INdiana Business the team "is not closed to the option" of taking part in the upcoming Indy Racing League (IRL) season. Eric Mauk says RLR continues its effort to secure sponsorship for this racing season. He admits if there were a race tomorrow, the team would not be in a position to take part. But they have not given up on taking part in the IRL and Indianapolis 500 this year.

Mauck believes RLR has a good six weeks yet to find a solid sponsorship. He says a deal was reached in 2004 roughly two-and-a-half weeks before the first race.

The IRL's first race of the 2009 season is slated for April 5 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Ryan Hunter-Reay drove for RLR last season. He finished eighth in the IndyCar Series standings and won the Watkins Glen International.
