JBS publishes standard scholarly articles (both full-length articles and shorter notes are equally welcome), project reports, and book reviews. In addition, the JBS home page will provide links to additional resources of interest to biblical studies, including archaeological field reports, primary sources, and links to other sites of interest. Citing JBS ArticlesJBS articles are copyrighted and must be treated like any other published articles. They cannot be copied, duplicated, or reproduced by any means without prior written authorization from the General Editor. They may, of course, be cited for scholarly purposes according to the following format (for a footnote):Jim West, "Beware the Angry Prophet: 2 Kings 2:23-25," Journal of Biblical Studies [http://journalofbiblicalstudies.org] 1:1 (2001): pars. 3-5. Or: Donald Howard Bromley, "The Healing of the Hemorrhaging Woman: Miracle or Magic?" Journal of Biblical Studies 5/1 (January, 2005), 1-20. The portion of the citation inside the square brackets (i.e., the URL) is optional, but, if included, should retain the square brackets. The numeral that follows the URL is the volume number. A volume is defined as all the articles that appear in a given calendar year. Thus, all articles appearing in 2000 will be in volume 1 of JBS. Note that the location within an article is specified in terms of paragraphs (which are numbered), not pages. Paragraphs of book reviews will also be numbered, although most citations of reviews will not need to include paragraph references. Anyone submitting an article, book review, or book to be reviewed
Biblical Studies ListIn conjunction with JBS, an electronic discussion list dealing with all aspects of biblical studies has been operational since February 1999. This list, called biblical studies-list, currently has over 175 participants, and anyone interested can subscribe at http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/biblical-studies. Click on the subject "subscribe," then on the page subscribe to the list. Go to the same place to remove yourself from the list or to modify your personal settings. To subscribe to a digest version of the list, adjust your personal settings to request the digest, and you will receive one message from the list per day with all the individual messages grouped together. You can also choose to read your messages on the Web rather than by e-mail. You can send messages to the list from the same Web site, or you can send a message to biblical-studies@yahoogroups.comBiblical Studies Word of the DayHave you ever been reading a book or article and come across a word you did not know? JBSword is a daily mailing list that offers words that are germane to biblical studies. It defines the word, provides a pronunciation and presents the word in its scholarly context. It’s a great way to develop your vocabulary and provide clarification for concepts that one comes into contact with in biblical studies. You may subscribe at http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/JBSword.
AcknowledgementsThe idea to create an electronic journal of biblical studies was first conceived by Jim West a few years ago, and now it is coming to pass. I am particularly grateful for his encouragement and support in making this project a reality. We hope that this Journal reflects his years of passion for the area of biblical studies.J.
