The Myths of Haw Par Villa

¡@

Haw Par Villa is promoted as a theme park but it is actually a sculpture garden where hundreds of statues and tableaus in brilliant reds, blues, greens and gold depict Chinese mythology and heroes.  There is a little secret that not many people know about: dozens of statues that used to belong to some tableaux in Haw Par Villa had been scrappily abandoned on a hidden hill slope.  SPI captured some first-hand photographs of these deserted statues and interviewed the neighbors during day time.  At night time, an investigation that was carried out on the dumping ground by SPI, turns out to be an unimaginable horrifying experience.

Some latest facts: (1) Admission is free - everyday from 0900 hr to 1900 hr. (2) A unique park that is both educational and interesting. It can be used as a choice place to learn more about Chinese culture and values as well as for organising parties and functions. (3) please note that the 'Ten Courts of Hell' will be temporarily closed for a period for upgrading work. Work will begin around mid-November 2003.  Visit our affiliate Singapore Hotels for accommodation.

Disclaimer
Some photos of the exhibition from Haw Par Villa depict victims of violent torture in hell which may be considered by some people as objectionable.  Readers are advised to view at their own discretion and that very young children and the squeamish perhaps should NOT do so.
