Needs of Public School Libraries
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the Texas Education
Agency were directed by the 80th legislature to conduct a study
to identify the needs of public school libraries. Go to the study
Renovation News
Renovation of the historic Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and
Library Building is currently underway. The Texas State Library
and Archives Commission will remain open for business during the
renovation, but some services and collections will be limited. We
appreciate your patience during the renovation, which is expected
to be complete in the spring of 2010.
Office Changes—
The Federal Documents, Genealogy, Original Documents, Reference
and Archival Materials have relocated to the Reference/Documents
Collection - Room 300 (third floor) during the renovation of the
ground, first and second floors of the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives
and Library Building.
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission - Executive Offices
have moved to Room 416. The Communications Office and the Friends
of Libraries & Archives of Texas are now located in Room 415.
The Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building is open
Monday — Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We appreciate your patience during the renovation.
Talking Book Program— The Talking
Book Program staff and the Disability Information and Referral Center
have moved to our temporary Camino La Costa location during the
renovation. The mailing and shipping address and phone numbers remain
the same and will not change during the renovation process. Please
call ahead (800) 252-9605 or (512) 463-5458, before you plan to
visit the Talking Book offices because materials and tours may not
be readily available due to storage and renovation changes. Please
continue to send and return tapes, books and magazines to the enclosed
self-addressed card. All other correspondences should continue to
be mailed to 4440B Shoal Creek Blvd., Austin, TX 78756-3213.
Human Resources— The TSLAC Human
Resources department is still located in Room- 413 (fourth floor)
of the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building.
Attention Local Governments!
We are revising our retention schedules for Texas local governments.
We welcome your input, so please take this opportunity to read the
draft versions of the schedules and submit your comments electronically.
We anticipate finalization of the schedules in early to mid-2009.
