EXCLUSIVE: ‘Sin City 2’ Filming Could Begin ‘Sometime This Year,’ Says Rosario Dawson

Rosario DawsonNot even a month after “Sin City” star Michael Clarke Duncan told us he hadn’t heard a peep about “Sin City 2″, the plot thickens. Now, Rosario Dawson, the straight-talking star who once strapped herself into black leather to play the role of gang gal Gail says that she’s leaving room open on her 2009 calendar for the long-awaited sequel.

“Yeah, I talked to Robert [Rodriguez] and Frank [Miller],” she said of a recent conversation with the director and writer who joined forces with Quentin Tarantino for the hit 2005 film. “They actually just finished the script for ‘Sin City 2’ a few months ago.” Read more…

Frank Miller’s ‘Sin City’ Meets Charles Schulz’s ‘Peanuts’ In ‘Schulz City: That Yellow Shirt Shirted Such-And-Such’

'Schulz City'What happens when Charles M. Schulz’s “Peanuts” meets Frank Miller’s “Sin City“? The answer is a story fans aren’t likely to see in Miller’s “Sin City 2″ film. In fact, it might require a few visits to Lucy’s psychiatrist booth.

Created by deviantART member Ninjaink, the humorous two-page story “That Yellow Shirted Such-And-Such” (a nod to the “Sin City” story “That Yellow Bastard”) blends Schulz’s insightful wit with Miller’s signature grit. A hulking Marv-like Charlie Brown’s introspection has descended into full-on brooding, Linus’ philosophical nature is replaced with smug bravado and Sally’s stubbornness is redefined by an adult sexuality. Frank Miller On ‘The Dark Knight’: ‘They Should Have Called It ‘The Joker”

'The Dark Knight Returns'Sure, everyone already knows about the record-breaking success of “The Dark Knight,” and we’re all waiting to see if the film’s early award run will translate into a few “Dark Knight” Oscars. Heck, we’re even starting to hear information begin trickling out about a “Dark Knight” sequel. But what does Frank Miller, the man who wrote — in many comics fans’ minds — the definitive “Dark Knight” story, think about the film?

“Look, they got the title right,” Miller told MTV when asked about the influence of his “Dark Knight Returns” story on the very dark vibe of “The Dark Knight.”

“Actually, I think they should have called it ‘The Joker,’” he laughed. Read more…

‘Watchmen’ Co-Creator Dave Gibbons Eyes Team-Up With Frank Miller For ‘Martha Washington’

'Martha Washington'Over the past year, Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons have become creative forces to be reckoned with in the world of comic book movies. Both have major projects in the works — Miller’s “The Spirit” and Gibbons on “Watchmen” (which he co-created) — and, thanks to their respective, storied careers, both have plenty more where that came from in terms of groundbreaking comic book work. But what about a possible team-up between these two comic titans?

When DigitalSpy.co.uk recently asked Gibbons what he’d like to work on after “Watchmen,” the acclaimed artist hinted at the possibility. “There was a series I did with Frank Miller called ‘Martha Washington,’ which in fact is longer than ‘Watchmen,’ it’s about 500 pages. Frank’s enjoying a certain amount of success in Hollywood and I wouldn’t be surprised if something happens with that. I think that would make a great movie.” Read more…

‘The Spirit’ Director Frank Miller On The Legacy Of Original Creator Will Eisner

'The Spirit' by Will EisnerWe’ve been giving quite a bit of real estate to “The Spirit” lately in anticipation of this Thursday’s release of the film — so much so, in fact, that you probably know all there is to know about the film without actually seeing it! From the reading habits of its stars to Samuel L. Jackson’s Octopus wardrobe, and more posters and publicity photos than you can shake a red necktie at, it’s been hard to contain our interest in “The Spirit.”

While we’ve already delivered a heap of get-excited quotage from “The Spirit” director Frank Miller, we’re always interested in more from the iconic comic book writer/artist-turned-big budget Hollywood auteur — especially when he’s talking funnybooks. Thankfully, SuperHeroHype has our hook-up today, with an extensive, in-depth Miller interview about his relationship with “Spirit” creator (and war hero), Will Eisner, and the lessons learned from him. Frank Miller Heads To The 25th Century, Tapped To Direct ‘Buck Rogers’

'Buck Rogers'FROM MOVIES BLOG:The producers behind “The Spirit” obviously have a lot of faith in Frank Miller, because they have just handed him another directing gig. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller is in the final negotiations to direct “Buck Rogers” for Oddlot Entertainment and Millennium Films.

Miller has been rumored to have the directing job for months. He will be writing and sketching his own version of Buck Rogers and not surprisingly, it’s expected to be dark, with his usual focus on corruption, sex, and violence. As the original Buck Rogers was good, clean, all-American fun, you can expect a fair amount of controversy when his take is revealed.

More From Frank Miller On ‘Sin City 2,’ ‘Hard Boiled’ Development

'Sin City'As we reported earlier this week, these days, when it comes to Frank Miller, it seems that what the legendary comic artist/writer has coming up is just as exciting than his films that are currently hitting multiplexes.

Case in point, at a recent press junket for “The Spirit,” MTV ventured into “upcoming film” territory, asking the on-the-rise director about the status of “Sin City 2,” to which Miller replied, “I’ve written ‘Sin City 2.’ Its all written. Now we’re just working out the mechanics of getting it there. Marv is in there and I hope it’s Mickey Rourke. I’ve got my Ava, but I really don’t want to talk about casting because it could end up being somebody else and I wouldn’t want to insult her.” Read more…

Frank Miller Discusses ‘300’ Sequel, Mickey Rourke & ‘Martha Washington’

Frank MillerAs we get closer to the December 25 release date for Frank Miller’s take on “The Spirit,” one can only assume that we’re gonna get hit with a barrage of news in anticipation of the film. However, it’s never too early to get the iconic comic book writer-turned-director to talk about his other notable work — namely “Sin City,” “300,” and his “Martha Washington” series — and the folks over at SuperHeroHype.com did just that in an with Miller.

When it comes to films based on Miller’s revolutionary comic work, one of the biggest hot-button fanboy issues of late has to be the rumors that there will be a sequel (or possibly prequel) to “300” — and while the moans of ire were audible on the message boards when this news broke, they quickly died down once director Zack Snyder mentioned the possibility of a new comic from Miller that would build on the “300” mythos.

“I’ve written a story that’s not a prequel,” Miller told the site. “It’s definitely a further story in the Greco-Persian Wars, and it involves some of the same characters but I’m not sure exactly how far along it’ll get.” Read more…

Frank Miller Says ‘Sin City 2’ Could Begin Filming In April

Frank MillerYesterday, Mickey Rourke told MTV that he and Frank Miller are both ready for “Sin City 2″ — and now it looks like they’re in agreement on that, too. IGN had the opportunity to chat with Miller about the sequel to the 2005 adaptation of his graphic novel — a project on which he shared director credit with Robert Rodriguez and which set the stage for his upcoming solo directorial debut with “The Spirit.”

Sin City 2 is written,” said Miller, confirming the longstanding report that a draft of the film is indeed in the hands of Rodriguez. “It’s mainly a matter of working out the details of the production. I’m hoping to do it with Robert Rodriguez again in the same circumstances that we did the first one, and we could be shooting as soon as April.” Read more…
