Prudential Center To Host New Jersey Nets Pre-Season Basketball
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – In their continued goal to further regionalize the franchise, the Nets announced today they are moving their three home pre-season games for the 2009-10 season from the IZOD CENTER, with two games to be played at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, and one game on the campus of St. John’s University in Queens, NY.
The two games at the Prudential Center will be held Tuesday, October 13 against the Boston Celtics and Wednesday, October 21 against the Knicks. The Nets will play the Philadelphia 76ers at Carnesecca Arena at St. John’s on Friday, October 23.
“We are excited to bring our team and our brand to Newark and Queens for the pre-season schedule for next season,” said Nets CEO Brett Yormark. “We are looking forward to playing two games against two of our biggest rivals, the Celtics and the Knicks, at the Prudential Center. We are also excited to be playing a game at St. John’s in Queens, a borough where we expect great support for the Nets when we move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2011.”
“We are looking forward to bringing NBA basketball to the Prudential Center for the preseason,” said Jeff Vanderbeek, president and chairman, Devils Arena Entertainment LLC. “It is a great chance for us to introduce new customers to our building and provide them with a great experience. I want to thank the Nets organization for bringing the team to Newark for what will be two great nights of basketball at the Rock.”
“We appreciate the chance to host the Nets for a game at St. John’s and to give our students an opportunity to see an NBA basketball game on campus,” said Chris Monasch, St. John’s Athletic Director. “While this is the Nets’ first pre-season game at Carnesecca Arena, it should be noted that there are long-time connections between the team and our school – Louie Carnesecca, himself, is a former coach of both the Nets and St. John’s.”
Nets season ticket holders will have the option, but will not be required, to purchase tickets for any or all of the games. They will, however, have the opportunity to purchase the tickets in advance of the general public. Tickets for the general public will go on sale in the early fall. Tickets for the Prudential Center games will be available at the Prudential Center box office and through the Nets ticket office and Ticketmaster, while tickets for the game at St. John’s will be available at the St. John’s box office and through the Nets ticket office.
