Hey everyone! It's wild speculation time, sponsored by Nintendo.
So, the Big N sent out this vague tease which reads in its entirety, "The legacy began ... more than ten years ago." I don't know what the hell that's supposed to mean, but it doesn't mean that I can't flail madly about screaming about how awesome it would be for Nintendo to develop another neglected IP back to life.
But it begs a question: What game could they possibly be getting us excited about. A quick scan of games from within a window of roughly ten to seventeen years (any longer than that, I'd expect them to say, "nearly twenty years ago") yields some possibilities. StarTropics hit the scene around that time, but I don't believe the series is popular enough to build the sort of anticipation this statement seems to convey.
Some are guessing that this could relate to the already announced arrival of Super Smash Bros. I don't see that as being too viable either. We've already had Brawl and the massive Smash Dojo campaign. Why not just toss it into the Wii-kly update and be done with it?
No, if I had to guess, my money would be on Star Fox. Just a hunch, but it's a popular enough series to have warranted a priority release on the GameCube (however poor a decision that turned out to be). The timing feels right to me. I suppose Nintendo will drop some other little nugget right about the time I forget that this one existed.
stunt race fx!!!
What's with the punk rawk robot in the screen shot? Was that part of the tease or did you add that?
This is for an Aqua Teen game or something?
haha looks like your joke was a bit tpo confusing conrad
I have no clue, this is pointless.
My guess is that the teaser is for the new Punch-Out!! title.
First of all, the last game in the franchise, Super Punch-Out, was released back in the mid 90s. Secondly, the new Wii remake of Punch-Out is coming out in two months so Nintendo's probably starting to build more hype for the game especially since Punch-Out most likely won't be shown at E3 since it will be released before then.
Although the game might make an appearance at GDC event in late March.
........ but seriously I would love a new Star Fox!
That's the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future, from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Probably some shitty game, like all their other stuff.
@eternalplayer2345: Well, I'll take solace in the fact that at least you got it.
Judging from the picture and a few of the comments, I actually thought it had something to do with ATHF.
EARTHBOUND!!!
10,000 years ago in the future, I came upon a helpless tease of a Nintendo ad executive. He was pushing to make chickens the dominant species of the world, and with the power behind R.O.B. he had almost decimated the human species, until I had sex with it.
I hope it is Earthbound, but I am also pulling for a Star Fox Wii game.
Pokemon.
Looks like Pokemon, which happened... more than 10 years ago
It would be nice to see them bring some kind of order to the StarFox series. Look it's an Arwing, no it's a Zelda clone, no it's some kind of strategy-thing.
Let's get back to basics please. Do want another StarFox 64.
THOUSAND OF YEARS AGO!!!!
That reminds me what ever happened to that sega teaser that ended up being another teaser?
As for this could be somthing to do with pokemon but I think maybe starfox too.
Quick question before I jump to conclusions:
Is that mohawk robot thing part of Nintendo's announcement, or is it a Destructoid modification?
If it's part of Nintendo's announcement, the logical conclusion would be something sci-fi, and what sci-fi legacy began more than 10 years ago?
On one hand, Nintendo did begin their Star Fox and EarthBound franchises more than 10 years ago, and not much more than 10 years ago (unlike, say, Metroid), but that robot thing doesn't look like anything out of Star Fox or EarthBound. (Or Metroid, for that matter.)
Or I might just be jumping to conclusions, because I don't know where that robot thing is from.
My money is on more pokeymans. My previous speculation of a DS Redux ala FireRed/LeafGreen still stands, mostly because A.) It's about the same span of time between Emerald and FR/LG, and B.) This is the only logical thing to do for Nintendo to appease the Die-hard Pokemon fans for dropping the GBA port on the DSi and make some extra pocket coin in the process.
Yeah. How about we finally get a real StarFox game? IMO, there hasnt been a StarFox game released since '64
StarFox 64 remake. Nothing else will do.
my money is on -kid iracus?
whatever his name is
Yoshi's Cookie II: The Cookening!
I'm guessing its going to be either A) A new Kid Icarus title, B) Starfox or C) A new Excitebike game
Mario Party?
The Dreamcast is almost 10 years old. I wish hey would remake that.
I love how people think the ATHF robot is part of the tease.
I got your joke, Conrad!
Anyway, my guess is for a Wii Pokemon game. And this time, it'll actually be a traditional "Pokemon" game instead of just some stupid supplement to the portable versions. The "legacy" began 11-12 years ago so it's about right. Also, Diamond comes out soon, so it's about time to announce the next step for the series.
Star Fox was over 15 years ago so I'd say it's out. And StarTropics isn't even close to possible as it came out in 1990, though it's THE old series I'd most like to see ressurected.
Me dumb. Me miss joke.
Pikmin has been nearly out for 10 years, not for more.
How about a Smash Bros for the DS? With online that actually works.
URBAN CHAMPION!!!
The font is definitely Pokémon ish. It'd be cool if they combined red/blue and gold/silver in 3d, with an orchestral remix of the soundtrack [or they could use the brawl one!]
Ugh, the LAST thing I want to see is a console take on the handheld Pokemon formula. For me, the gameplay is beyond stale.
I was thinking it might be Sin and Punishment 2. However, they already announced it last October and the original came out in 2000... so only 9 years old.
A traditional Pokémon game for a console sounds like a good idea, at least to me.
StarFox would be just as cool.
BURGER TIME
aqua teen reference = VICTOLY.
I bet its for some game they have already annnounced. Anyone remember that stunt ninty did a few monthes ago involving kirby and shit?
that font makes me think earthbound. please let it be earthbound!!!
If we got a new Startropics game, I could die happy.
It's a pity it's so unlikely that's going to happen. Still, with A Boy and his Blob hitting the remake scene, I've got my fingers crossed...
Like 95% of their main franchises began more than ten years ago so this is extremely vague.
I would be extremely happy is this was:
- EarthBound
- Startropics
- 3D rendered Ice Climber game for DS
- Kid Icarus
- FZero
- Donkey Kong Country 4
And for predictable and probably disappointing possibilities, which some of them ae stuff we already knew, we could get:
- Pokemon Platinum
- Pinball
- The Legend of Zelda (don't get me wrong, what I mean is "oh we are making another Zelda fyi")
- Punch-Out Wii announcement
- Mario Party 9
Its finally a sequel to Mario Paint! Woot!
Better be fucking pokemon
F muthaf$ckin' Zero!
