Those who enjoyed the game will be pleased to know that Capcom plans to continue applying the HD Remix treatment to its catalog of titles, according to Capcom's vice president of strategic planning, Christian Svensson. "Are we done doing HD Remixes? No we're not done," Svensson told UK gaming site VideoGamer. "But the next ones that we do will be even better, based on what we learned."
And, of course, the immediate question from any fan of Capcom fighting games then becomes, so what about Marvel vs. Capcom 2? "I won't say it doesn't need it," Svensson said. "Marvel would be great to do. There's obviously a fan base for it. It's probably our most requested title. Unfortunately, I wish I had news to share on that front but I don't."
Source: GamespotAfter months of making progressively grimmer headlines, Midway Games today had some much-needed positive news. The Chicago-based publisher announced this morning that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe has sold 1.8 million copies worldwide since its release last November. The decently reviewed game is available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in both a regular version ($59.95) and a "Kollector's Edition" ($69.95).

"Hot on the heels of our UK office getting its hands on a preview version of Street Fighter IV, we met up with Capcom at CES and got our paws on a near-final version of the game. And we got a whole lot out of our time with it, since we were able to use all the new characters and also play the new Challenge mode. Better still, we played using the upcoming Mad Catz fightpad and arcade sticks, which seemed fantastic."

Square Enix gives its PlayStation Portable 3D fighter a vague North American release window.
Given that each major installment in the Final Fantasy franchise features its own self-contained universe, fans of the series haven't had many chances to see their favorites from different games interact. However, that's set to change next year. Square Enix announced today that its franchise-spanning fighting game Dissidia: Final Fantasy is set for a "midyear 2009" North American release.

Capcom promotes November 26 Xbox 360 launch for revamped version of arcade fighter.
"Capcom already said that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was planned for release this month, but with just two weeks remaining in November, the company has been mum about narrowing down the launch any further. Gamers concerned that certification woes will keep the remixed fighter bottled up until next month can breathe a little easier, given that Capcom today promoted a November 26 launch for the Xbox 360 edition of the downloadable game."

All-new installment in Capcom's heralded fighter arrives for home consoles next year, European release set for same week.
Between Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and a new Street Fighter-themed pinball table for Pinball FX, Capcom's hallmark fighting franchise has been getting a lot of play in the news lately. But what fisticuffs-enthused gamers really want to hear about is when they'll be able to start the pilot light on their hadoukens in Street Fighter IV.

Namco Bandai kicks off Tokyo Game Show with confirmation that long-awaited PS3 fighter will launch on rival console simultaneously in fall 2009.
TOKYO--The current generation of consoles has seen a number of longtime exclusive third-party games migrate to multiplatform releases. The Devil May Cry franchise was a Sony exclusive brand until the fourth installment debuted on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII has also shed its exclusivity and will be appearing (in the West at least) simultaneously on Microsoft's and Sony's platforms.

"Hollywood scribe Steven E. de Souza knows bad movies. Occasional hits like Die Hard and 48 Hrs. aside, the writer and producer's career has seen an abundance of critically panned stinkers, including The Flintstones, Judge Dredd, Hudson Hawk, and Beverly Hills Cop III. But arguably the worst received production he's ever been involved in is his writing and directorial effort Street Fighter, the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme action flick based on Capcom's beloved series of fighting games."

Arcade brawler pitting game publisher's characters against those of anime production company confirmed for Japanese console release later this year.
TOKYO--"The Amusement Machine Show may be taking place in Japan right now, but the latest news in fighting games came from outside the event. Today, Capcom announced that its upcoming crossover title Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will arrive for the Nintendo Wii on December 11, nearly simultaneously with the arcade version that's scheduled for release in the middle of the same month."
"Tatsunoko vs. Capcom features historical characters from Capcom's popular game franchises and the Tatsunoko animation studio. Characters from Capcom's side include Street Fighters Ryu, Chun Li, and Alex, as well as Morrigan (DarkStalkers), Souki (Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams), Batsu (Rival Schools), Rock Volnut (Megaman Legends), and PTX-40A (Lost Planet)."

20th Century Fox will release the new Street Fighter movie, about female fighter Chun Li, played by Kirsten Kreuk, in February.
Kreuk stars along with, Neil McDonagh (M. Bison), Chris Klein (Nash), Michael Clark Duncan (Balrog) and Robin Shou (Gen). Actress Moon Bloodgood stars as a new character, Detective Maya Sunee.
So, what's up with the flick focusing on Chun Li and clearly not including some of the videogame's most popular characters? Screenwriter Justin Marks wrote on the movie's blog, ""Think of the X-Men franchise," he wrote. "Think of the way it started with a simple story of Wolverine trying to find a place in the world. And then it spawned an entire universe of amazing characters. If we didn't keep this movie grounded, we would risk turning Street Fighter into a parody of itself. And to those of us who are fans of fighting franchises, the last thing we want is a movie that doesn't take itself seriously"
Romeo Must Die helmer Andrzej Bartowiak is directing.

The long-awaited fighting sequel from SNK Playmore finally made its debut at the 2008 Amusement Machine Show, and we got to play it.
"After two long years of silence, SNK Playmore has finally unveiled a playable version of King Of Fighters XII at the Amusement Machine Show in Japan, which will continue to run at the Makuhari Messe convention hall in Chiba Prefecture until September 20. Needless to say, GameSpot was there to check it out."

SNK's long-overdue revamp of flagship brawler set to arrive in Japanese arcades in April of 2009; producer talks about the troubles of next-generation 2D development.
TOKYO--"Back in September of 2006, SNK Playmore announced that it was giving the formerly annual King of Fighters franchise a long-overdue graphic overhaul with King of Fighters XII. Today at the Amusement Machine Show in Japan, the game was finally presented to the world with a playable build and a release date."
"Appearing onstage at the AM Show, producer Masaaki Kukino announced that KOFXII will be released in Japanese arcades next April. Kukino also took the occasion to introduce his game to the visiting press, and he talked a little bit about the development of the game."

TOKYO--"At the AM Show 2008 taking place in the Makuhari Messe, Namco Bandai Games showed off its upgraded release of Tekken 6, titled Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion."
"With Tekken 5, Namco released an upgraded version called Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, which featured two new characters as well as game balance updates and other minor additions. The company has decided to follow the same formula with Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, adding yet another two unique characters to the Tekken universe."
"The first character is Alisa Bosconovitch, a pink-haired female fighter who wears a dress that matches her hair color. If you're a follower of the Tekken franchise, the name should ring a bell. One of the key characters in Tekken's background story is Dr. Bosconovitch, a scientist who appeared as an unlockable player character in the PlayStation port of Tekken 3. Namco hasn't officially unveiled the relationship between Alisa and Dr. Bosconovitch yet, but from what we've played, she seems to be one of his ingenious inventions."

The Mortal Kombat series has always carried an air of mystery, dating back to the first game's novel addition of Reptile, a secret character who could be faced only under very specific conditions. That air has been thicker than usual with the newest installment of the game, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Beyond the issue of how Midway will land a Superman-friendly T-for-Teen rating without watering down the series' trademark fatalities, there's also been the question of which heroes and villains will be in the game. The publisher answered that question today by revealing the final characters of the full Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe cast.
Rounding out the list for DC will be the despicable duo of the evil genius Lex Luthor and the cosmic tyrant Darkseid, as well as the mercenary antihero Deathstroke. The final additions to the Mortal Kombat half of the game's 22-character roster all date back to the first two games of the series, with original Kombatant Kano joined by the sequel's supreme ruler Shao Kahn and the bladed beast Baraka.

XBLA version of the updated 2D fighter appears on TGS games list.
"Turns out Capcom isn't the only company sprucing up an old fighting game on Xbox Live Arcade. A list of games that'll appear at the Tokyo Game Show next month has been released online, and one delightful surprise it reveals is that SNK's King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match is set for release over XBLA next year (translation via Siliconera)."
"{Unlike Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, though, Ultimate Match isn't a remake specific to a digital release -- the game came out in Japanese arcades back in March and on the PlayStation 2 in June. Along with the 2009 release on XBLA, the PlayStation 2 version of the game is set for release in North America next year as well. The remake cleans up the graphics, addresses some balance issues, and adds 10 new characters -- bringing the total up to 64."
"As for what, if any, new features the XBLA version will get, we'll probably have to wait until TGS to find out. Hopefully SNK will recognize they are releasing a fighting game in the year 2009, and will add the almost-mandatory online feature everyone will be expecting."

Arcade players uncover potential game imbalance.
"Street Fighter 4 players have -- not two weeks after the game's American release -- discovered a potential infinite combo in the game. Official Xbox Magazine passed along this video showing SF4's new luchador character El Fuerte repeatedly transitioning from a standing fierce punch into a canceled dash -- not quite into infinity, but it's a start.""If you're not a hardcore fighting game fan, that all probably sounded like Greek to you. In a nutshell, an infinite combo is a series of moves in a fighting game that, if performed correctly, cannot be escaped by the opponent. As frustrating as they can be, the reality is that infinite combos have been present in almost every competitive fighting game to date -- as recently as Soul Calibur IV, and as retro as Mortal Kombat 3."
"The arcade release of Street Fighter 4 has occasionally been regarded as a sort of tongue-in-cheek public beta test for the eventual home version, which is set to receive a few substantial additions when it finally drops. It's not surprising, then, that Capcom might have a few kinks to iron out before then -- be they infinite combos or grotesque man-hands. "
