VirtualLogix talks about Real-Time Virtualization

VirtualLogix's solution helps computing devices significantly lower power consumption, gain higher performance, and enhances the device's security and maintainability thanks to its Real-Time Virtualization software.

VirtualLogix introduced Real-Time Virtualization to the market. And the company's proven benefits extend through a broad set of goods such as laptops, set-top boxes, and even mobile devices -- a market that is really coming into its own. To find out more, I spoke with Mike Seashols, executive chairman of the board at VLX.

Q: For readers who may not be familiar with the company, can you tell us, who is VirtualLogix?

A: VirtualLogix, Inc. is the global leader in Real-Time Virtualization software for computing devices. VirtualLogix is headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., with operations worldwide. The company has been partially funded by industry leaders including Intel, Cisco, Motorola, and TI.

Q: You mention "Real-Time Virtualization." Can you explain?

A: Virtualization software interfaces between the hardware (CPU and I/O) layer of a device and the operating systems layer to deliver arbitration (defined by policies) and transparency (no modifications to any of the elements in the environment), resulting in optimized performance of resources. The introduction of real-time virtualization from VirtualLogix (VLX) now enables virtualization software for a wide range of computing devices -- significantly lowering power consumption, gaining higher performance, and enhancing the device's security and maintainability. VLX enables the three leading operating system families -- RTOS (Real Time Operating System), any popular version of Linux, and any version of Windows -- to concurrently execute on any popular silicon chip sets coupled with a wide range of I/O devices.

Q: Who does VLX benefit?

A: As computing devices of all types become richer in features and infinitely more connected, the need for real-time virtualization software solutions is exploding. Device OEMs and service providers are seeking to accelerate the introduction of new functionality with lower cost consolidated designs using the new multicore chips offerings.

As a result of VLX's unique architecture, the world's largest semiconductor companies, manufacturers, OEMs, and carriers are able to address one of the key objectives of their device: reduced power consumption. They can also improve the overall performance -- from "instant on" to faster response times on the screen. The challenge of insuring higher security protection is critical as data -- both public and private -- is moving through today's most popular devices.

Traditional need to shorten development cycles and reduce bill of material costs also allows organizations to benefit from virtualization. The proven business benefits of VLX extend to set-top boxes, laptops/netbooks, network infrastructure equipment, mobile handsets, the industrial sector, the medical industry, as well as automotive devices.

Q: What are some of your 2008 company and product highlights?

A: In 2008, VirtualLogix continued to grow in terms of revenue and design wins, embarking upon tighter integration opportunities with tier-one partners in most geographic markets throughout the world. Providing broader functionality and higher performance, the company led the market in embedded device virtualization as the industry's most performance-efficient solution.

In 2008, VLX maintained its status as the industry's most performance-efficient solution, while extending vertically with networking and IT Datacenter centric Carrier-Grade Virtualization. VLX now enables system designers to deliver unmatched power management and security architectures and includes a comprehensive tools suite that makes configuring and deploying VLX an easy-to-use experience.

New product innovation delivered by VirtualLogix in 2008 enables system designers to deliver unmatched power management and security architectures. With a comprehensive solution designed to make the configuration and deployment of VirtualLogix VLX an easy-to-use experience, VirtualLogix extended its solutions vertically starting with networking and IT Datacenter centric Carrier-Grade Virtualization.

Q: What's in store for VirtualLogix in 2009?

A: In 2009, VirtualLogix will continue to deliver vertically aligned and application-ready end-to-end solutions and execute on our go-to-market strategy to enable us to scale in relationships with our worldwide partners. As virtualization approaches the tipping point, VirtualLogix will benefit from its leadership position in the market and experience an increase in customer acceptance.
