Proud Member of American History and Genealogy Project
Polk County Georgia was formed in 1851 by an act of the Georgia Legislature. It was formed from land taken from western Paulding County. It was named for James Knox Polk, the eleventh president of the United States. The County Seat is Cedartown.
In 1856 some of the southern part of Polk County was used to create Haralson County. If you are looking for relatives that lived in this area, you may want to check in Paulding and Haralson Counties also.
