The NASDAQ OMX Group has dropped 11 securities and added one to its Clean Edge Green Energy Index (CELS) following a semi-annual evaluation.
Dropped will be Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. (Nasdaq:ALTI), Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASTI), Aventine renewable Energy Holdings Inc. (NYSE:AVR), C&D Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:CHP), Capstone Turbine Corporation (Nasdaq:CPST), China Sunergy Co. Ltd. (Nasdaq:CSUN), EMCORE Corporation (Nasdaq:EMKR), Gushan Environmental Energy Limited (NYSE:GU), Plug Power, Inc. (Nasdaq:PLUG), Power-One, Inc. (Nasdaq:PWER) and Vicor Corporation (Nasdaq:VICR).
Raser Technologies (NYSE:RZ) will be added to the index.
The NASDAQ Clean Edge Green Energy Index tracks the performance of clean-energy companies that are publicly traded in the United States. The index includes companies manufacturing, developing, distributing and installing emerging clean-energy technologies like solar photovoltaics, biofuels and advanced batteries.
The five major sub-sectors that the index covers are renewable electricity generation, renewable fuels, energy storage and conversion, energy intelligence and advanced energy-related materials.
Securities must also meet other eligibility criteria, including minimum requirements for market value, average daily share volume and price. The index is evaluated on a semi-annual basis in March and September.
