Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce is set to add experience to his back-four when he completes the signing of French international Gael Givet from Olympique Marseille later this week, sources in France report.
Givet, a Champions League finalist in 2004, has seen little action at the Stade Vélodrome after a falling-out with l'OM head coach, Belgian Eric Gerets, and is yet to feature in Ligue 1 this season.
The player, a highly-rated left sided centre-back who played 234 senior games for Monaco before moving to Marseille, has won 13 caps for France and would add some experience and quality to Allardyce's somewhat stretched defence.
"Givet’s move to Blackburn is about to be done," Jose Anigo told French radio station RMC.
The Marseille sporting director was also able to confirm that l'OM would not be making a move for Chelsea's seemingly disgruntled striker Didier Drogba, as they simply cannot afford the Ivory coast international's wages.
Anigo added: "He is unreachable. Didier’s problem is that, even if he wants to come to Marseille, there’s a financial issue. Paying his wages is impossible for every French club."
