The Vikings signed Griffin to a contract extension.

He has only three career interceptions, but has become one of the league's hardest-hitting cornerbacks, forming a formidable run-stopping tandem with fellow starter Antoine Winfield. The Baltimore Ravens have signed Smith to a one-year contract.

Impacts: Head coach John Harbaugh knows what type of player the Ravens are getting in Smith from his days coaching in Philadelphia. Smith, a 6-foot-3, 258 pound six-year NFL veteran, has caught 231 passes for 2,525 yards and 18 touchdowns in 86 regular season games. An alleged drug dealer in suburban Philadelphia testified that he did not sell marijuana to Buckhalter.

Impacts: That contradicts the word of a state trooper, who testified Thursday that he was listening on wiretaps when Buckhalter, who played at Nebraska, called the suspect, 36-year-old Styles Beckles of Clifton Heights. Weaver has agreed to a one-year contract with Philadelphia, giving the Eagles a much-needed blocker in the backfield.

Converted halfback Tony Hunt started but was cut after seeing limited action. Defensive tackle Dan Klecko was moved to fullback and Kyle Eckel was signed off waivers to add depth. Weaver, 6-foot and 242 pounds, is a solid blocker and can be effective with the ball.

The Saints cut McKenzie on Thursday.

Impacts: The 32-year-old McKenzie played five seasons with the Saints after the team acquired him in a 2004 trade with Green Bay. The 11-year veteran started 62 of 63 games, with 225 tackles (167 solo), 58 passes defensed, 12 interceptions and one forced fumble. The past two seasons were tough for McKenzie, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the last game of the 2007 season and a fractured right patella in 2008.
