SINGAPORE: The first-ever Asian Youth Games (AYG) will kick off in Singapore in June this year, and organisers unveiled the games' mascot and the theme song entitled "Asia's Youth, Our Future" on Thursday.

The song carries the message of hope and friendship and was composed by well-known musician Iskandar Ismail, and written jointly by Jose Raymond and Hoo Cher Liek.

The singers are Nathan Hartono, who previously had a chart-busting jazz album, and Lian Kim Selby, a second year student at Anglo Chinese Junior College.

Organisers said the official mascot is the embodiment of the values and spirit of the AYG. Its name will be officially announced on April 15.

The games will see athletes aged between 14 and 17 taking part in 90 events across nine sports from June 29 to July 7.
