Awesome was the word of choice to describe the Big Music Fest, which drew 16,000 screaming fans to Belleville's East Zwicks Park to see acts such as The Tragically Hip, The Sam Roberts Band and Sarah Harmer.
"This is awesome" said Jeanie Metcalfe, of Trenton, who was on the edge of the stage with friends Gerri Coulthard and Sharon Fairman of Trenton. "We want more rock 'n roll in Belleville"
Angela Genereaux, general manager of the Belleville District Chamber of Commerce, said it would be difficult to say how much money came into The Friendly City and surrounding area thanks to the 16,000 who attented the The Tragically Hip concert, but it certainly help expose the Quinte area to some people for the first time.
"Any event (like this) is huge for Belleville when it comes to economic development," Genereaux said. "We are thrilled, absolutely thrilled, with the outcome."
Belleville mayor Neil Ellis said the benefits for the community were many and he made a guess-timate about how much money came in to the city because of Big Music Fest.
"The economic spinoff exceeds a million dollars," he said. "A lot of visitors came to Belleville ... and will come back again for another visit."
Genereaux said the concert was peaceful, too, so the visitors left with a good impression of the city and its amenities.
"Sixteen thousand people and four arrests," Genereaux said. "I have to take my hat off to the organizers."
