For the fifth straight year, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) has received an Air Cargo Excellence Award from the Air Cargo World customer satisfaction survey.
IAH was judged according to how it handled claims, solved problems, offered prompt and courteous customer service, presented a professional and knowledgeable sales force, fulfilled promises and contractual agreements and maintained dependable transit times.
Air Cargo World is one of the most widely read air cargo industry publications in the world and each year, the publication asks its readers to evaluate the air cargo facilities of various airports across the globe.
“This is positive affirmation from the experts themselves, the people actually utilizing the services available” says Genaro Pena, Deputy Assistant Director with the Houston Airport System (HAS). “That’s what makes the recognition so special.”
And Pena is quick to add that there’s every reason to believe that the impressive operation is going to get even better in the future.
Bush Intercontinental has seen numerous improvements in its air cargo operations in recent years, including the expansion of the air cargo operational area to more than 880,000 square feet.
Parking is available for 20 wide-body freighter aircraft and the facility also features a one-stop-shop for the federal inspection services of cargo, including a full service inspection facility for quick certification of foreign animals, plants and seeds.
Aggressive growth planning such as this has allowed the Houston Airport System to capture the attention of carriers around the world, even during difficult economic times.
More than 900 freight forwarders currently use the services of the IAH Cargo Center and new carriers continue to view IAH as an attractive opportunity.
Already in 2009, Cathay Pacific Airways has set up all- cargo service at IAH, offering three weekly flights between Houston and Hong Kong.
