Rebecca St. James is known to be one of the core backbone artists of the CCM structure.
Having released seven original albums (plus a full-length live compilation), published six books (with one on the way),
and contributed greatly to Compassion International, this almost thirty-year-old female is achieving her dreams and helping
others along the way. In honor of her accomplishments, The Ultimate Collection of Rebecca St. James's music was released
this Spring.
“God Help Me” starts off the first disc, serving as the rock infused opener, followed by the techno stylings of “Reborn.”
The well-renowned hit single “God” is dedicated to our Maker for his awesome power and love, while “Lion,” Rebecca's contribution
to the soundtrack for the first Narnia film, further describes our amazing Creator. The creed of “Yes, I Believe In God”
is included, Rebecca's anthem for the victims of the Columbine High School tragedy, and is followed by
“Go And Sin No More,” a classic RSJ song about turning from our sins and moving forward. Other standout tracks include
“I Thank You,” “Better Is One Day,” “Wait For Me” - which is the track inspiring and encouraging purity and the wait for marriage -
and worship anthem “God Of Wonders.”
The second disc of this compilation offers mostly a similar variety as the first, but is nevertheless solid and well-defined.
“You Are Loved” illustrates the desire to share Christ’s love with those who feel hopeless and unloved. “Alive” is an exciting, energetic
tune, providing an upbeat rhythm that will make the listener spring into action. Rebecca's version of Matt Redman's popular worship
anthem, “Blessed Be Your Name,” presents a worshipful atmosphere that allows even the listener to enter in and be a part of the
experience. “Breathe” is another familiar worship song with an added RSJ twist for uniqueness. “Pray,” “Expressions Of Your Love,”
and “Here I Am To Worship” are a few remaining popular tracks that help round out this collection.
Both of these discs demonstrate the stages of Rebecca’s musical talent and vocal ability and how she has matured since the start
of her journey as a young teen. The overall quality of this project is good, but may not be good enough for the dedicated fans who
already own the majority of Rebecca’s music. There are a few rare gems that make it into this mix, however, including "Lion"
from the Narnia soundtrack, "Yes, I Believe In God," and "America," as well as "Expressions Of Your Love," featuring
Chris Tomlin, which first was heard on the 2003 Best Of Rebecca release. With that said, for all the newcomers to the music of Rebecca St.
James, The Ultimate Collection is a recommended purchase.
