Haines, Addiego & Rudder: 8th District Staff Will Work Through Furlough Days

Assisting Struggling Constituents Is a Priority, Even If It Means Working Without Pay

Senator Phil Haines, Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder today announced that their 8th District office staff will work without pay on two furlough days ordered by Governor Corzine.

“We have spoken with our staff, and they have volunteered to come in to work,” said Assemblywoman Addiego. “They are willing to give up their own time to come in and lend a hand to people who need help.”

Furlough Numbers Just Don’t Add Up

Senator Phil Haines, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement regarding Governor Corzine’s continuously evolving definition of how much money will be saved by imposing an unpaid furlough on state employees. Mike Symons reported today in his blog on the Asbury Park Press website that the Corzine Administration is using different numbers to identify how much will be saved through employee furloughs. 8th District Legislators Collecting Donated Items for U.S. Troops Overseas

Senator Phil Haines, Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder have joined with the Evesham-based Yellow Ribbon Club to collect donations of comfort items for American troops deployed overseas and recovering soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

“There are men and women fighting on our behalf, in horrible conditions. We are opening up our office and putting our energy into this effort to make their lives just a little more bearable,” said Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego.

Haines: Senate Resolution Urges COAH Rules be Declared Unfunded Mandates

Senator Phil Haines, R-District 8, has introduced Senate Resolution 112 that would put the Senate on record as supporting the case laid out in a complaint filed with the Council on Local Mandates by the town of Medford. The complaint argues new, so-called “affordable” housing quotas are unconstitutional, unfunded mandates and should be overturned. The resolution would put the Senate on record as stating that the Council on Affordable Housing has gone well beyond the powers granted to it under the Fair Housing Act.
