The two Czech Members of the governing ODS party who voted against the government last week will run as Libertas candidates for the European Parliament elections.

Vlastimil Tlusty and Jan Schwippel voted against their own party because of their discontent over their handling of the Lisbon Treaty. Mr. Tlusty will lead the Libertas list. Sitting MEP Vladimir Zelezny will also feature on the Libertas list.

Libertas Chair, Declan Ganley said “Vlastimil Tlusty and Jan Schwippel are courageous public servants who are not afraid to stand up for democracy. They recognise the threat that the Lisbon Treaty poses for the Czech people. They will ensure that the Czech people have a voice for a better Europe: against this anti-democratic Treaty and against the Brussels elites”.

Mr. Tlusty, Mr Schwippel and Mr. Zelezny will hold a press conference on Thursday April 2nd, 14.00 at press atrium of Chamber of Deputies, Parliament of the CR, Snemovní 4, Praha 1

Libertas.eu is a pro-European movement committed to bringing more democracy, accountability and transparency to European Union law-making and institutions.

In June, Libertas-backed candidates will run across the 27 member countries of the European Union for the European Parliament elections. Libertas.eu seeks to have the European voters’ mandate to reform the EU.

This is the first time a pan-European party will contest the European elections.
