Oberst portrays writer Grizzard

Staff report • • April 1, 2009

Jackson Parish Library will host actor Bill Oberst Jr., as he performs "Lewis Grizzard: In His Own Words," at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Oberst, a native of South Carolina, is a Southern good ol' boy and a talented storyteller who portrays Grizzard at his best.

Grizzard, who died in 1994, was a syndicated columnist, comedian and author known for his Southern pride and patriotic fervor.

The show is fast-paced and funny, a theatrical reminder of how funny and humane the late Georgia writer was. A favorite quote of Grizzard's was, "I am American by birth and Southern by the grace of God."

The performance is free and open to the public. For more information about it, visit the Web site at or call 259-5697.
