art & ideas

I built If Monks had Macs, my Macintosh & Windows CD-ROM, to do my part to save our culture from contempt and corporate sponsorship.

The CD-ROM is almost entirely about civilization and culture, not politics. Nonetheless, along with millions of my fellow citizens, I worked to change this world for the better this last couple of years. While involved in this struggle I found a way to take my passion for art and ideas out of the If Monks had Macs library and into the streets. I held up the release of the final edition of the library until this new work could be integrated into the profusely illustrated essay at the end of the volume on my photography and films (However Shattered).

The greatest honor the various editions of this library received was that they were embraced by and built with the help of monks, atheists and Republicans — quite a diverse group of individuals. I believe that it is only because of its unique combination of controversy and inclusiveness that If Monks had Macs will continue to be a place where the weary can find a little peace, laughter and inspiration.
