Damn, G. I don’t know what to say about this. I heard the album in the whip last night on full blast and I thought it was a banger. The beats are smoothed out and it’s good listening music. Granted hindsight is 20/20 whatever the fuck, but I wasn’t really feeling Wu-Tang Forever all the way through when it first dropped and now in retrospect Wu-Tang Forever is a classic album that was ahead of it’s time. So I’m guessing the same with this one. Meth definitely stepped the rhyme game up on each first!

This is real shit right here, heard a couple of the album cuts & the beats did seem a lil’ off, I’m probably still goin’ to cop the album, but I don’t know, maybe they’ll release a different album without RZA like the rumor said…

Somebody over there is operating under false pretenses and they need to get their shit together. I can understand that RZA wants to try different shit, and thats all good, but for some reason I don’t think he’s got his ears to the streets. He’s just got yes men in the studio with him and he needs to get the fuck outta that situation.

I think his feelings got hurt when they voted against him. They needed to make a punch you in the face album to show that they still got it as a whole. Hope this gets worked out.

I really can’t believe all this is happening. I was floored when I saw those GFK comments today. How can a grown man get on with this kind of shit. Don’t get me wrong, he is in my top 5 MC’s, but RZA made all you dudes. He would sit in the studio make beats and they would pick em. It all was his vision. Talkin about a WU album with Kanye or Parrell producing, get the fuck out. WU is RZA. Don’t forget Rae’s Immobilarity or Meth’s The Prequal, weak! As soon as the member went outside the RZA there shit fell off. Except GHOST, but Ironman and Supreme Clientele had RZA all over it. Work your shit out and act like men. What was to be a great 2 weeks in December is now fucked up. From what I heard of the 8 Diagrams it is solid and different. Great beats and lyrics, when did hip hop become such a circus? To quote Little Brother ” My homie said Get Back was hot but I don’t know, something was different. I said ” isn’t that the fucking point”".

You got to imagine the arguments and fighs these brothas have been having behind the scenes, Rae and Ghost sound like they are about to secede (or be annexed?) from the clan.

I co-sign that statement above, it breaks my heart to see the unit dissolve in such a way, but then again, anybody with a large family knows, KNOWS, that people fight all the time and grievances got to be vocalized.

Ghost prolly felt very strongly about his views and felt that he was being shot down, after all I would be mad too if I was the only other negro with clout at the moment (and though I love RZA) this dude is coming with the elemental this, rat tat tat that weakness with the beats I might be ready to tell the world my side of the story.

For real though once the Wu crumbles (and I pray they don’t) my last bastion of hip-hop will have crumbled.

So Ghostface is telling the world 8 Diagrams is wack–implying people shouldn’t buy it. How can real hip hop fans respect Ghost now that he is trying to prevent his friends’ success. I want to like Ghost; I’ve never downloaded his records–I waited for them to hit stores. But I’ll never listen to him again. How the fuck do you try to force failure on the people you came up with? It doesn’t matter what you’re fighting about. You don’t air out laundry on some Jerry Springer shit to stop their sales. That’s the same thing as snitchin’. This shit hurts hip hop. allnice says:

I have to respect both RZA’s and Ghost’s opinions about the album, but this marketing ploy is pretty funny. They never used to beef like this in public. It is a shame that they have to turn to media circus marketing to sell their albums, but we are living in a new age of Youtube and social networking sites. Wu is just running with a new viral marketing scheme.

The Wu versus RZA sounds like some marketing scheme that RZA thought up. Meth mentioned before that Ghost and Rae don’t like anybody, so RZA is using them as the perfect antagonists for this album selling charade. This reeks of 50 vs. Kanye scheming. When Rae said that the Wu might have to release an album called Shaolin Vs. Wutang to combat the 8 Diagrams album, I new that this whole shit is just some slick way for Wu to get relevant again. I mean Shaolin Vs. Wutang? That is obviously a RZA idea!

This whole beef is like some silly climax of a bad kung fu movie where everybody just starts merking each other for no apparant reason. With the death of Dirt, you would think these guys would be able to pull it together for an album regardless of how bad it is.

This whole shit is just very entertaining though. I like the part when RZA is talking about how he barely got Ghost into the studio like he can’t even get a hold of the dude. Cmon RZA, you scored mad soundtracks for extra cash plus fame and you want me to believe that Ghost won’t pick up a phone? Then RZA slips and says that Rae’s album is already done! Wait, what the fuck do you mean it’s done? So why isn’t it out yet? What the hell is going on?

But you know what, I really would like to hear a Shaolin vs. Wutang album. It can be sorta like Meth vs. Chef on Meth’s first album with just them niggaz dissing each other. On the Shaolin side, there would be Ghost, Rae, U-God, and Cappadonna. The Wutang side would have RZA, GZA, Masta Killa, and Deck. Meth would be the referee doing the hooks and shit for both sides. Tell me that wouldn’t be ill!

That’s a dope theory, allnice. I’m wit that. I hope it’s true; but I think if it was true, Ghostface woulda mentioned the Shaolin v. Wu album during his interview. Instead he just whined on some cry-baby-ass bullshit.

But what if the beef is planned? 2008 could be the year that hip hop breathes again with albums like:

Wu Tang’s “Shaolin vs. Wutang”
Raekwon’s “Only Built for Cuban Links II”
Immortal Technique’s “Middle Passage”
Nas’s, well you know the name ;)

Vicious Seiger says:

I bought the first wu-tang album while I was in high school and it was a classic, RZA was at his sharpest, the clan was bringing some new to hip hop. Fast forward 12+ years and X albums later, these aren’t the same men from that time and sad to say people grow apart. Truth be told, I can’t remember the last surefire RZA beat. His hollywood score aspirations were trash on Blade III and Kill Bill. He’s gone hollywood and even hollywood doesn’t even care for his stuff. How many wu tang alumni still even use the wu-insignia? Times change, people change and this project sounded forced from the beginning. Every producer has their Golden Age “Go To” era. and RZA’s has long passed him by. If there was going to be a wu project why not use 4th Disciple or Mathematics and like Ghost said outside talent like Premo (Please No PHARRELL Thank You!), 9th Wonder, MF Doom, Erick Sermon or damn I’ll take even take Diddy’s “Add a Cow Bell there” producing ass. Wu as a whole hasn’t made a ripple in at least 6 years or since ODB’s Death. Iron Flag was dismal, The album before that had only two hot tracks Gravel Pit and The Jumpoff (PYN2). This is something I think even the label should have brought to RZA’s attention. When one guy dictates the sound of an album over 7-8 other opinions you can only welcome descent. Really, name 10 tracks in the last 5 years produced by RZA that were straight fire and not just alright? I can’t even name two. RZA was always a little off (check his craptastic Bobby Digital Albums) since they became superstars. I really feel for all those Die hard Wu Fans because you really want to see these guys make a comeback in to prominence but, sometimes you have to know when to fold and just sit back celebrate the success of the past and stop trying to relive it. Somethings that fall apart just aren’t meant to be rebuilt.

I ain’t heard the Album yet, but I’m sure I’m gonna appreciate it, I been a Wu Fan since they dropped Protect Ya Neck! I like all the Albums… Trust me when I say I wouldn’t have bought as many albums as I have if they all sound too similar. Diversity is a good thing, too much of the same thing isn’t always good. This is why I think Rza branches
out and tries new sounds, if your a producer your not gonna make the same thing over and over. The strange thing is I can see both sides of the coin, Ghost is right in a sense, hardcore fans luv he’s shit it’s straght venom, banger after banger, Rza is also right though, as a producer. This shit Ghost and Rza got going ain’t about music it’s about business and money. Let’s hope things smooth out…

Nate says:

Wu can still make great music. But outside of a solo album here or there I’ve noticed at least since 2000 that they don’t have that total consistency track by track to make the GREAT complete album. So casual fans can’t cop those because they want to get the most for their money.

In my case I have 80% of the WU solo stuff and Ghost just hasn’t made the total full classic albums. If HE HIMSELF says that the last 3-4 albums have been wack (his words) then why is their even a point of debating that point. (It’s not as if those of us not in the game can strongly argue that coming from him)

I think that at many points of people’s life after a strong measure of success that you tend to become satisfied with doing just enough to get by. At some point you have to strive to be the best with the grind that put you at the top. And that takes a group effort unified for a group album. But instead of 8 hungry dudes coming up, it’s a few hungry ones and a few relaxed, satisfied ones. That’s when the arguements come.

theJZA36 says:

The reality is that this whole thing is sad, man. The Clan is beefin’, ready to split and shit. I never wanted to even think about it, but it’s probably official now: Wu-Tang is done. I love Wu, but if they can’t even come together anymore to put an album out… what is there?

I haven’t heard a single thing from 8D, but I’m buying it anyway because I’m a fan of the shit. If what I’m hearing everywhere is true, and RZA has gone crazy, I’ll take it as a good sign. Cuz, if you remember back when he started experimenting with that Bobby Digital shit, it was like, “what the fuck?” But now look at it, it really wasn’t bad, just ahead of it’s time. Wu music does take time to grow on you. I ain’t like everything I heard the first time on alot of their albums, but given time I grew to love them shits. I’ll probably go through the same thing with 8D, which is why all these albums are great. They never get old, you’ll never listen to an album the same way twice, IMO. Maybe I’m wrong…
I’ll tell you this though, MOST everything else out now is fuckin’ garbage. I don’t even look twice at that shit. It’s a handful of good hip-hop out there, that’s it. So on that note, WU-TANG.

Peace.
