Reggie: New titles to boost hardware sales

Nintendo confident 'important' new titles will pick up Wii sales
Nintendo big man Reggie Fils-Aime says Nintendo has 'a number of important' new games incoming for Wii and DS that will boost hardware sales following the March NPD figures.

Games industry sales have dropped 17 percent in US according to the lastest NPD results but, like Sony, Nintendo says it has software coming that will make up for it.

NOA president, Reggie Fils-Aime cited 'a number of important new titles' coming for Wii and DS, and that Nintendo is "confident that we'll continue to see very strong hardware sales behind those launch titles," he told Reuters.

It was rumoured yesterday that a major Nintendo title was due for release before the end of the year. All eyes on E3 then, we hope.

Theres 3 pretty big wii releases right there.

WHATEVER!

He thinks there's still people around who don't have one? Wow :)

Anyone who's called Reggie is a legend. I sincerely wish I was.

However, this is just ninty being proactive and responding to sonys threats. This year should be a good one, I do hope I begin to use my Wii as much as my ps3 some day...

New F-zero and Pilotwings would do very nicely indeed.

So, when we are half way into the year Nintendo will anounce a new game and most likely it will launch for end of the year?

One Whole Year for One Game?

I mean SONY tried its best with KillZone 2 and i did enjoy it, it was 7/10 ish for me.

But if GOW III is out THIS year then SONY has this year.

I mean heard nothing from Microsoft that intrests me, same for Nintendo...but that could obviously all change, not got my hopes up high thought.

But yeah Xbox Has:

Halo : ODST
Modern Warfare 2
FNR 4

PS3 has:

GOW III

Nintendo:

Wii Will See.

To assume that just because a game is only announced in a short time before its release that it hasn't been in development for long is a naieve view and wrong.

Just because Sony begin the hype machine years before they even start production, doesn't mean every other company does the same.

Nintendo always keep whats they're working on under wraps untill just the right moment to announce it.

Why announce a game two years before its gonna come out. By the time its released most people don't give a toss anymore. do it just before and they'll be all hyped and happy all the way up till launch day.

I hope when he talks about boosting hardware sales that they have a few more games lined up that are gonna make use of the Wii Speak.

Most decent Wii games now offer online modes, with the upcoming Virtua Tennis 2009 claiming to have all the modes and features that the 360/PS3 offers and WWE 2009 just falling short of a few features. Isn't it now time we had the chance to voice chat too?

If SEGA can use it in a 12 player Conduit, then surely it would be easy to include voice chat in Virtua Tennis!?

Nintendo already has 5 original games slated for release here such as...

Wii Sports Resort
Punch out
Another Code
Sin & Punishment
Excitebots

This is Nintendo, they have no reason to stop making games. The problem is that they would do much better if they released some of those outside Japan and actually afforded them some hype at tradeshows.

h8 to break it to you,but its the conduit and wii sports resort, lol

but

i smell sin and punishment 2 and a new mario, only something on that level can regain nintendos street cred as a "games maker", they are,
white plastic producing cash whores atm.
Posted by shiwayb
Meh on all of those games.

What about a big franchise, even at one a year?

2006 - Gears Of War
2007 - Halo 3
2008 - Gears Of War 2
2009? - Halo: ODST

I would settle for a Mario Game, Zelda Game, (A Proper) Pokemon Game etc.

Something good....
Posted by purple101
And...have you ever wondered why there only 1 proper mario, 1 mario kart and 1 zelda on wii , even though the sequels would Deffnately sell..

its cos' there hoarding cash from those titles and wont release new ones until they think no -ones gonna' buy em' anymore.

sega are left to pik up the pieces and put out a lot more, a lot better titles than nintendo on their own console. game of bleach anyone? gHost squad, sonic or hotd?

conduit is going to smak 2009 round the chops
and spit it out over microsofts overly reppe'd box o crap.

I'll tell you what Nintendo, I'm a reasonable guy and I'll be willing to make you a deal here. Sack that ignorant pile of arse-dribblings of a man and I will buy a celebratory Wii. Hell, I'll buy 2 :D

The Conduit?

Are you joking?

Graphics - It Fails
Sound - It Fails
Features - It Fails
Gameplay - It Fails
Story - It Fails.

Yes its early to judge from trailers and interviews but seriously?

You think The conduit is going to be better than Halo: ODST?

Its offering what Halo 3 Online features, stat tracking, theatre, forge etc with Gameplay, Story, Graphics, Sound etc

Oh please, if really think so then you are only lying to yourself.

The only shooter worth getting intrested over was Metroid.

And that even failed with No Multiplayer....

Even a basic one with 3 - 5 maps would been enought...

it's all about wii this year.

madworld
house of the dead: overkill
pikmin
punch out!
the conduit

plus the stuff that hasn't been shown at E3!

my 360 hasn't been on for a month.

I don't think this is ******** for once...the distribution company I work for has already allocated a substantial area of stock space for whatever this new announcement is.

Haven't been able to find out whether it's hardware or software related yet, but Nintendo seem to think it's something pretty major apparently, sounds intriguing!
Posted by roland82
Maybe Im wrong but my impression of the majority of the Wii buying crowd is that Nintendo stop making games altogether and it still wouldnt matter to these people.

The Wii will continue to sell as long Wii fit stays in stock.
Posted by Tonyb
Very true roland!

Nintendo have done something no other "gaming company" have managed to do, and that is design a machine with software that attracts the classic gamer who loves their gaming heritage...

...but also produce an interface and external peripherals that have entered the mainstream as a health/lifestyle choice that has caught the public's imagination.

More power & Kudos to Nintendo for that!

Wii owners satandards have lowered so much these days.

i) Punch Out was good back in the day, but now it jus looks very average.

ii) Wii sports resort is like the most gayest thing ever, was you being serious or just taking the piss about how bad nintendo have become?

iii) And the conduit wouldn't even get noticed if it was on the PS3 or 360, me thinks people are excited about it PS2 graphics
Posted by shiwayb
Erm, i think God Of War II blows it out of the water.

Have you seen a Cut Scene from that game?

Have you seen the overall graphics?

They are amazing...

Please, no more casual games for a year or two Nintendo!
