Street Sees Modest Gains

Stocks ended north on Friday, with a modest gain.

Citigroup ( C - news - people ) lost 9% at the close, despite swinging to a profit in the last quarter.

But the rest of the financial sector was largely in the black, with Bank of America ( BAC - news - people ) adding 3% and American Express ( AXP - news - people ) gaining 5%.

The Dow added six points, S&P; gained four and the Nasdaq was up three points.

Microsoft ( MSFT - news - people ) fell on Friday. A Thomas Weisel analyst says Microsoft will likely miss the Street's expectations in the third quarter on weak PC sales. Yet, he maintains an "overweight" rating on the stock.

BB&T ( BBT - news - people ) added 11%, after the bank blew past analyst expectations with profits of 52 cents a share.
