Sam Hurd (17) played in only three games in 2008 because of a left ankle injury that required surgery.

The restricted free agency signing period ended Friday, leaving Hurd and Austin with only the option to return to the Cowboys.

Under league rules, the Cowboys can reduce the offer made to Austin starting June 15.

Hurd, who like Austin made the team as an undrafted free agent in 2006, played in only three games in 2008 because of a left ankle injury that required surgery.

In three seasons, he has 24 catches for 389 yards and a touchdown. He is also a valuable special teams' contributor.

Ware, Spears raise 175K: DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears hosted the Taste of the NFL Ultimate Cowboys Tailgate Party on Sunday at the Glass Cactus in Grapevine, and raised $175,073.50 for the North Texas Food Bank.

Ware and Spears were joined by Kent Rathburn, the executive chef/proprietor at Abacus and Jasper's, as well as former Cowboy great Preston Pearson. Nearly 800 guests attended the four-hour event, and the money raised will account for 700,249 meals.

Ware and Spears have co-hosted the event for the last four years, taking over for La'Roi Glover.

"I hope it gets big enough that no kid is hungry," Spears said. "That's the ultimate goal. Whatever that number is, whatever it takes, you just want to do your part. You might not end world hunger or hunger in the U.S., but you're definitely part of the solution."

Romo, Walker lead in pro-scratch tourney: Tony Romo and PGA Tour player Mark Walker of Fort Worth teamed to shoot a 7-under 65 in the first round and lead by one shot in the Northern Texas PGA Adams Golf Pro-Scratch Championship at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.

Romo and Walker will tee off at 2:10 p.m. today at the Dye course at Stonebridge.
