The Golden Jubilee Reunion for the Classes of 1950-61 took place on Thursday 17 April. Almost 300 graduates and guests from all over the world returned to their alma mater to celebrate this special event in Queen’s centenary year.

The day commenced with lunch in the Great Hall and a welcome address by Dr Jack Kyle.  Jack graduated from Queen’s in 1951 and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University in 1991.  He worked as a doctor in Zambia for many years but is probably best known for his contribution to international rugby.  Jack continues to support rugby and the University through The Jack Kyle Bursary Fund which was established in 2001 to support Queen’s Rugby Academy.  After Jack’s warm welcome friendships were renewed over lunch and the Great Hall reverberated with the sounds of animated conversation and laughter.

After lunch some graduates went on a tour of the campus and visited the Naughton Gallery.  Others relaxed at a viewing of Breakfast at Tiffany’s in Queen’s Film Theatre.

This was followed by afternoon tea and then some theatrical entertainment by current drama students, a musical extravaganza by Queen’s Big Band and a talk on the History of the University by award-winning journalist, author and Queensman, Alf McCreary.
